DAQMAN 200 UP OVER ARCH-RIVAL: Daqman trounced Pricewise 5-0 yesterday and 11-1 over the three days of the Newmarket July Meeting to reach 200 up against his Racing Post rival (current season 59-10, making 200-83 all told since the challenge began).

MUHAARAR LANDS NAPS HAT-TRICK: His amazing Newmarket July Meeting was notable for a Triple Whammy (winner, place and lay in the same race on Friday) and a Double Whammy (winner and lay) yesterday, in which he napped Muhaarar and opposed Brazen Beau. That brought his sequences to:

* NINE LAYS IN A ROW
* NAPS HAT-TRICK (8/10)
* 14 WINS IN THREE DAYS

FABULOUS 14 WINNING BETS: Daqman had five winning bets yesterday, giving him a total in the three days of 14. They were:

FULL STEAM AHEAD IN CLASSIC FRENCH MILE

3.45 Chantilly (Prix Jean Prat) Chantilly is a bit of a Chester, and Charles Hills hopes that the turning track will enable Dutch Connection to celebrate his triumph with Muhaarar in the July Cup, particularly with fitness worries about the French vanguard.

In fact, it’s a race of the crocks, with Full Mast, Aktabantay, Territories and Kodi Bear all trying to make up for lost time after problems.

Dutch Connection was Royal Ascot’s Jersey Stakes winner from his father’s filly Fadhayyil (1,000 Guineas fifth), following his seventh in the colts’ 2,000.

His entry in the July Cup was an indication of stable concern about whether he will get today’s trip, but they’ve swerved the sprint to have a go at this ‘easy’ mile and, anyway, they had something special in the July Cup, didn’t they!

Dutch Connection was nearly eight lengths in rear of Gleneagles in the Guineas, and the form says he has a lot to do today.

Well in front of him, finishing second, Territories was just a little over two lengths off the winner, a reminder of their clash in the Grand Criterium last autumn.

Gleneagles was controversially disqualified that day after beating Full Mast and Territories in a tight finish (Aktabantay sixth).

Full Mast has missed the Classics this year with minor injuries and is a big colt who needed his prep run for this. Territories has been off since Newmarket – missing Ascot – with a foot problem.

Last year’s Dewhurst runner-up Kodi Bear could also improve after missing the Classics, too, sidelined with an infection. The Dewhurst winner, Belardo, was less than two lengths behind Gleaneagles in the Irish Guineas.

Mr Owen, who didn’t see a racecourse until February and came up from the French Provinces to finish third in the Longchamp 2,000 Guineas, has been rested since after a hard race that day.

The form looks good if you assume that the winner, Make Believe, didn’t run his race at Royal Ascot subsequently, and you set your theodolite on the runner-up, New Bay, who went on to win the French Derby.

The fourth horse, Karar, had run Territories to a couple of lengths in April so that, on the face of it, there’s not much between any of the French, except possibly fitness on the day.

VERDICT: The form suggests that you can put a blanket over half a dozen of these. I’d rather side with those that have run in the last six weeks, and those most lightly raced and likely to show big improvement.

Full Mast (around 4.0 on BETDAQ this morning) fits both criteria, and is with Criquette Head-Maarek, who so ably and patiently brought Treve back from the brink to shrug off leg injury and take a second Arc.

She has Treve aiming at two major hat-tricks: the Arc, of course, but – along the way – the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (job done), Prix Vermeille and Arc-de-Triomphe treble.

ALWAYS ONE FOR A FLUTTER AT STRATFORD

4.00 Stratford (Summer Cup) Last year’s winner and third, Fair Dilemma and Surf And Turf, renew rivalry after Surf’s revenge on different turf at Worcester recently.

It’s fair to assume, on fitness and at the weights, that the placings will be reversed again today, but the dilemma is trainer Paul Henderson’s poor form since with his last five starters: three pulled up and two beaten a total of 47 lengths.

Five horses are separated by 1.6 points at the front of the BETDAQ market this morning. That’s how open it is. I shall have my pound on Another Flutter, up in the handicap like Fair Dilemma.

But he is two wins and a second, still standing, at Stratford, and beat Miss Tenacious (won’t like any rain today), Surf And Turf and My Brother Sylvest over CD on the last day in May. Goes well fresh.

4.10 Perth Silver Cup Since May, dual Perth winner Russian Regent (up 22lb) and Thinger Licht (up 18lb) have climbed the handicap. But the one is aged 11, the other only six.

I shall side with ‘Thingy’ who, if his last win at Market Rasen is a guide, will love the chase against front-runner Bunclody. But can he beat Gleann Na Ndochais, whose Perth form in the last year is 3121.

Both stables are in form. Dan Skelton is four out of six, still standing, but the 10.0 Gleann Na Ndochais is wrong.

BID FOR THIRD DOUBLE WHAMMY ON THE TROT

4.55 Southwell Let’s try a hat-trick of Double Whammys, after Illuminate (win) and Easton Angel (lay) on Friday, and Muhaarar (win) and Brazen Beau (lay) yesterday.

The one to oppose today is Ruaraidh Hugh, who wins only right-handed; he is 0-6 going left-handed, and his form at Southwell is 00042, beaten favourite on the last day there.

He’s up 30lb all told for a hat-trick and his stable has dropped off its edge in the last fortnight: it’s had two runners, one pulled up, the other beaten 36 lengths.

A longer trip, cheekpieces first time and a fast surface here at Southwell brought Ubaldo Des Menhies back to form.

He’s got his conditions again today and he’s still 12lb lower than his mark when he first showed form after coming over here from France.
