15.0 STRIKE IN THE MIDLANDS NATIONAL: After 11 winning hits at the Cheltenham festival, Daqman landed the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter yesterday with a 15.0 BETDAQ bet from two selections at morning offers. It gave him a 4-0 whitewash of Pricewise of the Racing Post from seven big-race winners in the week.

TODAY: Daqman checks out the racing-diary handover from Jumps to Flat. Just two jumps cards today but Daqman tries three low stake bets in the hope that one win will secure a Betdaq profit on the day.

FLAT OUT WITH DAQMAN

GET IN THE MIX The Jumps have nearly finished and the Flat nearly starts! It’s the same mixed bag every year, leading to a Grand National double at Aintree and Fairyhouse.

Next Saturday Start of the Flat in Ireland, with the Park Express Stakes and the Irish Lincolnshire at The Curragh.

Make a note that the Irish Lincolnshire (when not run at Naas) goes to low numbers unless the ground is soft.

It has produced results by stall of 15, 18, 3, 1, 5, 12 at the Curragh in the last 10 years, with two of the three high numbers scoring in soft-heavy ground.

April 1 The Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster. Six of the last seven winners came from double-figure stalls.

April 10 Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse, which Willie Mullins has won only once! Nine out of the last 10 winners carried less than 11st.

Co Meath trainer Dermot McLoughlin tries to train a hat-trick of Irish National winners, after 40-1 and 150-1 scorers in the last two years.

He has made three entries but only last year’s winner, Lord Lariat, seems likely to run.

April 13-14-15 The Grand National meeting at Aintree. Noble Yeats, fourth in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham, tries to land a Grand National double off 19lb higher than when he won last year.

April 21-22 Scottish championships at Ayr

April 28-29 Jumps finale at Sandown

BLAZE LOOKS HOT

⭕ 3.00 Carlisle A quandary here. Imperial Alex heads the market but connections said after his Warwick win last month (good ground) that he seemed to prefer the quicker conditions. So he is now back on soft with a 5lb hike to boot? He wouldn’t be for me especially as this is quite a tough circuit when it’s riding soft.

Conditions might just suit Blazing Port who has run two respectable races since returning from a long absence. He was noted as ‘going easily’ before three out at Newcastle last time out over 2m 6f on soft so the drop back in trip could be spot on.

DISCKO TO CHANGE THE RECORD

⭕ 4.25 Chepstow Bells Of Stamford won really nicely at Warwick last time out beating Eros eight lengths with a further 23 lengths back to the third on his first start since a wind op.

He needs to do it again off a 7lb higher mark which looks fair enough but the ground is surely a huge concern?

The Warwick win came on good and it’s soft here. He’s had three previous races on soft in bumpers and hurdles and has been beaten 40, 34 and 51 lengths. If the weight doesn’t stop him, the ground might again.

I’ll take a huge chance with Discko Des Plages and I say that not on ability or ground but more on jumping and confidence. He has fallen in his last two starts but travelled well on both occasions. His overall jumping ability is generally OK and a change of luck would surely see him competitive at this level.

KING WILLIAM’S CORONATION

⭕ 5.00 Chepstow On a day of (very) limited opportunities I’m drawn towards the bumper here and perhaps the first Cheltenham formline to take advantage of.

King William Rufus made his debut in December in a bumper at Plumpton which might, at the time, have looked run of the mill. Odds on favourite wins race… shock!

However that odds on favourite was Captain Teague who came out on his first start since to run an absolute belter in the Champion Bumper last week when finishing third to the JP pair A Dream To Share and Fact To File – beaten just two and a half lengths.

Also, the third from the Plumpton race Duhallow Tommy has also won since and the form of the race looks rock solid suggesting King William Rufus could easily outclass his rivals here.

The danger is we are dealing with horses with limited experience so need to make a percentage call. The Jukebox Man comes from a stable that does well in bumpers and made a pleasing Point debut whilst Delgany Bobby Blue was beaten 16 lengths on Rules debut here and will improve but this looks tougher and has been weak in early trading on Betdaq Betting Exchange.

In short, King William Rufus sets the bar quite high.
