NOW AN INTERNATIONAL DOUBLE FOR APPLEBY’S HALL OF FAME: Daqman was down in the dumps last night with nothing to collect from Ayr and a promised late-night video link to America to test his faith. It would turn out to be 10 minutes of history, as Charlie Appleby, trainer of dual Derby winners, landed a sensational £600,000 international double and set up two more horses for his 2021 hall of fame.

NEXT WEEK: CAMBRIDGESHIRE COUNTDOWN AND 2-Y-O CLASSICS: Daqman also updates his main Fortune Cookies’ list today with a BETDAQ ante-post bet for the Arc meeting at Longchamp. Look out next week for:

MONDAY: Classic two-year-old ratings and results to date.
TUESDAY: Newmarket two-year-old tests and Fortune Cookies.
WEDNESDAY: Cambridgeshire ABC guide
THURSDAY-SATURDAY Newmarket Cambridgeshire meeting

YIBIR NOW A MILLION-DOLLAR HORSE

I only had belief left. But a bad day at the office became 10 minutes of international glory last night, riding on the back of a sensational Charlie Appleby double.

Everything I picked at home seemed to place without winning, so I didn’t relish a video link with Kentucky and an old trainer friend asking me: Can Dettori win this? Is Jamie Spencer a big winner any more?

While we were debating the million-dollar Jockey Club Derby at Belmont, Dettori streaked home for us in Canada for a £206k first leg of the Godolphin-Appleby double or, as the American end put it on my video link: ‘Frankie wins in a rout!’

What about Belmont? What’s this Yibir? He’s a big improver, I said, and Soldier Rising has already beaten Bolshoi Ballet.

I didn’t mean it to sound like an Exacta but that’s what they bet States side and I hurriedly found a feed to watch. But quickly got that sinking feeling; my luck was still bumpy.

Yibir ‘got detached’. He came out badly and – in further words from the commentator as the straight loomed nearer – Yibir ‘is still trailing.’

The only hope now was that Jamie Spencer was super confident. Gary Stevens had told viewers Yibir, which cheered me up no end; as a jockey he’d once tipped me five winners on a Breeders Cup card.

A million dollars is at stake. Bolshoi Ballet’s run comes to nothing; Soldier Rising is now prominent. But what’s this surging down the outside. Yibir! Yibir! He’s gone clear! He’s gone clear!

Yibir gets an automatic place in the Breeders Cup and Charlie Appleby can now line up another big double, with Epsom Derby winner Adayar and Irish Derby and St Leger winner Hurricane Lane among the favourites for the Arc. Here’s yesterday’s 10 minutes of magic:

10.35 WON the Canadian International (£206k) at Woodbine when Frankie Dettori streaked almost six lengths clear on Walton Street. Winner trained: C. Appleby, Newmarket, England.

10.45 WON the Jockey Club Derby (£401k) at Belmont Park with a sensational run down the outside from stone last by Jamie Spencer on Yibir. Winner trained: C Appleby, Newmarket, England.

SLIPPERS TOO BIG AT BETDAQ 8.0

FORTUNE COOKIES Daqman is taking the 8.0 ante-post Glass Slippers for the Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp, in the BETDAQ Sportsbook.

127 ST MARK’S BASILICA (Aidan O’Brien) Has won three races for the Fortune Cookies. We hope to see him on British Champions Day (October 16) but they may decide he’s done enough.

125 ADDEYBB
(William Haggas): Could line up on Wednesday at Goodwood as a prep for the Champion Stakes, Ascot, October 16.

125 PALACE PIER
(Team Gosden): Won the Jacques Le Marois for Fortune Cookies by a neck, giving 6lb to 2,000 Guineas winner, Poetic Flare.

120 SNOWFALL
(Aidan O’Brien): Unexpected defeat by Teona in the Arc-trial Prix Vermeille. She’ll need to show she can come back before the Arc is confirmed. Equally, Teona connections must not be hurried into an Arc decision, when she could run in the British Champions Fillies and Mares or the Opera at the Arc meeting.

116 REAL WORLD
(Saeed Bin Surror): Won the Strensall Stakes at York for the Fortune Cookies, which opens up the choice: Champions Mile or Champions Middle Distance (1m 2f).

114 GLASS SLIPPERS
(Kevin Ryan): Third in the Goodwood King George and the Flying Five. Always best in the late autumn. Could run in British Champions Sprint but around 5-1 with bookmakers for the Abbaye: 8-1 in the BETDAQ Sportsbook.

108 QUICK SUZY
(Gavin Cromwell): If she can get the fast ground she needs, she will attempt the Cheveley Park next Saturday but is an ideal contender for the Breeders Cup.

108 PERFECT POWER
(Richard Fahey): Prix Morny winner: Middle Park Stakes?

WON 13-8 HISTORY
(Aidan O’Brien) She got off the mark at Gowran Park yesterday and could now go for the Fillies Mile (Newmarket, Friday October 8).
Two-year-olds feature: Monday and Tuesday

McCAIN CAN SCORE AT PLUMPTON

⭕ 2.20 Hamilton Voice Of Wisdom swerves an open race at Beverley tomorrow to run in this fillies-only handicap, a loan raider from Newmarket. It’s her handicap debut.

She’s by a Haydock Sprint winner out of a mare related to a Group-1 sprinter, and the second and third in Voice Of Wisdom’s Bath maiden both won next time out. It was an easy surface, like today’s.

Oisin Murphy’s mount, Urban Violet, welcomes the rain, but Alpha Cru prefers firm ground, and Omany Amber wants a man-made surface.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE 2.78 Voice Of Wisdom

⭕ 2.40 and 3.10 Plumpton Desperate racing demands desperate measures. Sorry, I mean small stakes: I would be an idiot to play up my Belmont winnings on low-class jumpers.

But of all the stables represented today, the travelling man Donald McCain is one in fine form: he takes a 36% strike rate on a 470-mile round trip and I shall stake his pair to win 10 points.

Constancio (2.40) is a Plumptious CD winner on his last winning mark and in the right conditions. A change of headgear and bags of weight from his opponents could revive Court Jurado (3.10).

BETDAQ value 4.7 Constancio and 6.4 Court Jurado.

⭕ 3.20 Hamilton The bridesmaid was favourite this morning: 23222 Iris Dancer. And Oisin Murphy is trying to stem the flow of an unlucky-13 run by Water Of Leith.

I prefer something down in the weights that likes soft ground, and Kats Bob could indeed bob back today.

What had prompted a punt with the bookies? A good run at Thirsk the last day maybe, but equally his 12lb turnaround with Iris Dancer on Ripon form in the Spring.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE value 8.0 Kats Bob

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
