ONLY 7-20 HAD NEVER FALLEN

Burn the midnight oil. Or let Daqman do your homework on the Grand National. Every day he will present a new and different angle, with some surprising results. He starts with two enduring rules.

You need a horse that’s never fallen. Or one that’s already won or been placed in a major staying race. Or both. But are they rules or myths? Daqman checks out every winner this century.

Minella Times (2021) Had never fallen before his win. But had previously won only as far as 2m 6f.

Tiger Roll (2018, 2019) Had never fallen. Won the NH Chase (when 4m) and Cheltenham cross-country.

One For Arthur (2017) Had never fallen. Won the stamina-testing Warwick Classic.

Rule The World (2016) Had never fallen. Second in the Irish Grand National.

Many Clouds (2015) Had never fallen. Won the Hennessy Gold Cup (now Ladbrokes Trophy).

Pineau De Re (2014) Fell in the race the previous year. Won up to 3m 4f.

Auroras Encore (2013) Had fallen five times before, including in the Scottish National. But also second in a Scottish National.

Neptune Collonges (2012) Had fallen twice before. Fourth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup; second in the Haydock Park National Trial.

Ballabriggs (2011) Fell in a maiden chase. Won the Kim Muir at Cheltenham.

Don’t Push It (2010) Had fallen twice before. Won up to 3m 1f.

Mon Mome (2009) Unseated rider three times, including in the Scottish National. Second in the Welsh National

Comply or Die (2008) Fell once when a novice. Won the marathon Eider Chase.

Silver Birch (2007) Fell in the race the previous year. Won the Welsh Grand National.

Numbersixvalverde (2006) Had never fallen. Won the Irish Grand National.

Hedgehunter (2005) Fell in the race the previous year. Third in the Welsh National, won the Punchestown National Trial

Amberleigh House (2004) Fell once when a novice. Third the previous year.

Montys Pass (2003) Fell at the first as favourite at Punchestown. Won 3m.

Bindaree (2002) Unseated rider twice. Won up to 3m.

Red Marauder (2001) Fell in the race the previous year and in his prep race in the winning year. Won 2m 4.5f

Papillon (2000) Had never fallen. Won 2m 5f and 3m 1f,

*Does not include ‘pulled up’, ‘brought down’ or ‘slipped’ but falls include ‘unseated rider’. Races won are chases only.

WAYS TO WIN HALF A MILLION

⭕ 3.12 Cork Laugh A Minute won for Ado McGuinness on the opening day of the Flat last Saturday in little more than a minute, the same day the Dublin stable took the £666,666 Al Quoz sprint at Meydan with A Case Of You.

Laugh a minute? Willie Mullins had to saddle five winners covering 12 miles on the first three days at Cheltenham to take home the equivalent Meydan purse.

Laugh A Minute (BETDAQ 9.2) won this Listed race a year ago, and Mooneista, arch-rival here on form, has been absent 203 days and never won fresh.

Not so Johnny Murtagh’s filly, Measure Of Magic (BETDAQ 5.4), hidden from public view for 190 days but first-time scorer last Spring.

Has not won at 6f, but was third in a Group 3 at the Curragh in the autumn (Power Under Me well behind), with Twilight Spinner half a length in front on today’s terms.

⭕ 4.15 Plumpton Lydia Richards has a 70% strike-rate in the current winners’ window and Tom Cannon is unbeaten on her dual CD winner here, Good News.

He’s the only runner in the field who performed well the last day and has put back-to-back wins together before.

First-time blinkers would have to make a massive difference to Jumping Cats, who has run three times this year, beaten a total of 122 lengths. Even so, that’s 102 lengths less than Precious was thumped in his last three.

But be warned that Precious (11.0) is running in his first British handicap and his trainer won the race a year ago with one who had been beaten a total of 202 lengths in his only completed starts.

Isn’t it wonderful stuff, class-5 racing at Plumpton!

SOCKS UP FOR HEREFORD NAP

⭕ 4.30 Hereford There’s one thing better for punters than Aidan Coleman riding at 41% at Hereford, and that’s Aidan Coleman riding there at 44% when he teams up with Olly Murphy.

Bobby Socks rates the nap of the day. Like Good News, slightly better than even money on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE this morning.

⭕ 5.15 Fairyhouse When Battling Bessie, previously runner-up to American Mike, was second at the Dublin festival, she had behind her Pink In The Park (5th), Nikini (6th), Harmonya Maker (7th), Kilbunny Pontic (9th) and Eobha Grace (10th). Yet she’s 4.7 on BETDAQ.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
