SUNSHINE JOCKEY HAS SCORED SEVEN

Who’s who? In the three days of the resumption in Germany, three or four stables have dominated. My turn now, says Berlin trainer Roland Dzubasz, who will saddle eight horses today on his local Hoppegarten circuit.

He’s booked champion jockey Bauyrzhan Murzabayev for four of them, with the Kazakhstan-born ace in tremendous form with seven winners in three days, but with current leader Maxim Pecheur (five) not letting him get away.

When the crowds are there, a contingent of them wave the Kazakhstan flag – a shimmering gold sun on a sky-blue background – but the champ has been thriving in the sunshine this week behind locked gates from Hannover to Cologne to Mulheim.

Now, on day four of the resumption, his Hoppegarten mounts for Dzubasz are Valanca (2.00), Mademoiselle (3.00), Mabou (4.00) and Heavenly Bound in the final event of the day (5.00).

RUBAIYAT SHEER POETRY FOR STARKE

⭕ 11.30 Hoppegarten Andreas Wohler bags Bauyrzhan Murzabayev for the Dawn Approach offspring Lionel in this opener over 7f for unraced three-year-old colts.

Iris is a Camelot, but I’m keenest from the breeding angle on Palmvale, the Dzubasz runner, ridden by Adrie De Vries, who had a winner at Hannover on the opening day.

Palmvale is by the German Derby winner, Sea The Moon, who was leading second-crop stallion for the whole of Europe in 2019.

⭕ 12.00 Hoppegarten A conditions race for three-year-old fillies (1m 1f), with a strong favourite Kalifornia Queen. Andrasch Starke is in the saddle for Henk Grewe on this daughter of French Guineas and Derby hero, Lope De Vega.

The only winner in the race, so carries a small penalty but that’s not likely to inconvenience her, and she should again take care of Zamrud.

⭕ 12.30 Hoppegarten A 5f handicap spoiled for betting purposes because Frank Fuhrmann runs five of the 11 starters.

But does he give away his personal preferences by putting up Maxim Pecheur on Parion and Lukas Delozier on dual winner Kareless.

⭕ 1.00 Hoppegarten Another for three-years-old maidens (1m 2f) and another with a hot favourite, as it brings together Andreas Wohler and Bauyrzhan Murzabayev.

Sent to Saint-Cloud for his autumn debut – even the French crowd made him favourite – their good-looking colt, Le Magnifique, got bogged down in the mud that day under Maxime Guyon.

⭕ 1.30 Hoppegarten (Dr Busch Memorial) This is the race of the day, a 7f Group 3 for three-year-olds, and a big surprise if it doesn’t go to stylist Andrasch Starke on the unbeaten Henk Grewe star, Rubaiyat (form 1111), related on the dam’s side to a French 2,000 Guineas winner.

Grewe ‘does an Aidan O’Brien’ here, and puts in two others, hunting black type in the field of seven: Zavaro (form 01223 and Delozier ridden) and Santurin (form 110) are no slouches but step up in class.

⭕ 2.30 Hoppegarten The rest of the card is mainly about trappy handicaps, of which the star, in this 3.30, could be Peter Schiergen’s Quian (Mastercraftsman out of a Monsun mare), who drops down from Group attempts last year.

The 10 furlongs should suit him and is also needed by Wachmann, on whom Stefan Richter gives the leg up to Martin Seidl, who rode a double at Cologne on Friday. But Quian is tasty at 4.5 in the BETDAQ Sportsbook.

⭕ 5.00 Hoppegarten Gainsborough Hat, who moved from Mark Johnston, landed a gamble first time up for Frank Fuhrmann at Hannover on Thursday under leading jockey Maxim Pecheur.

Now he’s partnered by Jozef Bojko, who rode 8-8 losers at Hannover, and it’s a drop of a Hat in trip, with the stamina-bred four-year-old down from 1m to 7f for this handicap. Fuhrmann has four runners in the race all told, which doesn’t suggest confidence in a quick double.

Maxim Pecheur switches to the maiden Almudis, trained by Claudia Barsig, who is up from her small stable near Dresden.

If you were following Bauyrzhan Murzabayev, you may already have collected from his Roland Dzubasz rides on Valanca, Mademoiselle and Mabou. If not, Heavenly Bound is your getting-out punt.
