HE’S MADE 642 POINTS PROFIT IN HIS CHALLENGE TO PRICEWISE: Daqman and Pricewise were lost for value yesterday (0-0 their score) but it’s always there in the BETDAQ orange and they resume their battle on 22-12 to Daqman, who is 642 points in profit. Headlines:

13.0 HAT-TRICK FOR JOSEPH O’BRIEN

⭕ 1.40 Leopardstown (Spring Juvenile Hurdle) The hot favourites did best yesterday and glad to be on one of them at a decent price. I said that, looking back, Honeysuckle would appear good value.

Both ends of the telescope apply again today. Looking forward, do you risk your hard-earned at short odds or risk opposing what, in hindsight, will become the ‘good thing’ you ignored!

Quixilios looked a star Triumph Hurdle prospect in two quick wins in October but we haven’t seen him since.

Saint Sam and Youmdor (now hooded) have disappointed, so I shall have my pound on Busselton, runner-up to the very smart Zanahiyr, when Saint Sam was fourth, over CD here on Boxing Day.

Joseph O’Brien has won this the last two years and will have been building Busselton’s early career with the hat-trick in mind. Has a shout at 13.0 BETDAQ the win and 4.3 the place.

JUST WATCH AND APPRECIATE HIM..

⭕ 2.10 Leopardstown (Grade-1 novice hurdle) Two Fortune Cookies do battle here, with Appreciate It and Ballyadam, first and fourth in the Champion Novice Hurdle over the Leopardstown CD at Christmas, renewing their rivalry.

Ballyadam was unbeaten over hurdles until that day, including a comfortable Royal Bond win at Fairyhouse over Cask Mate and N’golo.

Lack of fluency in Ballyadam’s jumping let him down at Christmas and Gordon Elliott will have been schooling him in the 42 days since.

It’s a tall order to turn around 16 lengths so the main danger to Appreciate It may be Blue Lord, who ran out of gas over 2m 4f the last day but could be potent reverting to 2m.

PURE GENIUS BY THAT MAN TORRENS

⭕ 2.40 Leopardstown (3m handicap hurdle) J P McManus, who took the two handicaps yesterday via superb steering by Simon Torrens, has three produced in winning form for this: Damalisque, Pure Genius and Arverne (reserve).

Damalisque could get the 3m and could sneak in at the Dublin Festival with a penalty, said trainer Eddy Harty after the win at Navan nine days ago.

I don’t think he envisaged 12lb punishment from the handicapper and ‘could get 3m’ is a worrying phrase for me in a hell-for-leather Gold Cup day race.

I prefer Ted Walsh’s words about Pure Genius after he came home alone at Punchestown: ‘He wants 3m on heavy going and did today what I always thought he would’.

The jockey on Pure Genius? Simon Torrens, the very man who, after A Wave Of The Sea (12-1) and Drop The Anchor (8-1) yesterday, goes for a fabulous handicaps treble for a third trainer. It would be pure genius.

Dandy Mag gets 8lb for his Christmas win over today’s CD but I’m never keen to follow the form of Pertemps qualifiers; they can be misleading because you don’t really know who was up for them on the day and who had only the Cheltenham final in mind.

Ballyshannon Rose has a 24lb hike overall for back-to-back wins at Fairyhouse, and all told Pure Genius looks overpriced on his form and the form of Simon Torrens at this meeting: 7.9 on the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.

My outsider is Anything Will Do (BETDAQ 42.0). Four out of five over hurdles before going chasing, ran a decent fifth in the Pertemps qualifier here at Christmas.

11.5 ANDY PRICE FOR ELLIOTT BREAK

⭕ 3.10 Leopardstown Get your telescope out again. Are you looking through one end at the tiny odds about Monkfish or looking at the bigger picture?

Monkfish was unbeaten in five starts over the last year, following up his Albert Bartlett strike with back-to-back chase wins. In a rematch with his Cheltenham runner-up over hurdles, he beat him even further over fences. That was Latest Exhibition, who today relies on drying ground and a tongue-tie to gain third-time-lucky revenge at last.

Andy Dufresne was backed overnight. Has learned to jump smartly in winning over shorter and is well bred for this longer trip.

You need a price (BETDAQ 11.5) because trainer Gordon Elliott has won only a bumper and maiden hurdle from 43 starters. Coko Beach in the Thyestes was his last celebration.

That’s if Andy is subject to stable ups and downs. It doesn’t look that way, since he’s won when fresh three times in a row after long breaks.

MINELLA TO SET RECORD STRAIGHT

⭕ 3.40 Leopardstown (Irish Gold Cup) Form and facts in ratings order: just 5lb covers the main protagonists and tactics will dictate the result, with Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliottt both double-handed.

170 DELTA WORK Last year’s winner by a length and a half from Kemboy but out of the frame since, including fifth to stablemate The Storyteller in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal in the autumn.

168 KEMBOY Four in a row in 2018 completed in the Savills Chase over the CD. Aintree Bowl and Punchestown Gold Cup winner the following Spring (over Al Boum Photo) but five-time loser since.

166 MELON Twice Cheltenham Champion Hurdle runner-up, has won only one chase, a beginners’ here at Leopardstown (2m 1f) at Christmas 2019. Placed since at Cheltenham Festival and in Savills and John Durkan in December.

Travelled strongly in the Savills – his first attempt at 3m – and was beaten only in the final strides (a length and a half behind runner-up Kemboy).

165 MINELLA INDO Albert Bartlett winner, beaten just one length by Champ in the RSA and back-to-back Graded wins in the autumn.

Record spoiled when favourite but fell 8th in the Savills just after Christmas but strongly fancied to get back in the winners’ enclosure today: BETDAQ 2.84

162 THE STORYTELLER Four out of six last year, including Ladbrokes Champion Chase over today’s trip at Down Royal (stablemate Delta Work fifth).

McMANUS IN MIND FOR THE HANDICAP

⭕ 4.10 Leopardstown Chase J P McManus, handicap king here so far at the meeting, has eight runners in this, all from different stables.

Crossed My Mind (BETDAQ 11.2) kept on strongly to win the Foxrock at Navan in December and his previous success at Thurles had subsequent winners close up over 2m 2f.

The Long Mile has won four chases but needs soft-heavy. Minella Times was runner-up over today’s CD in a Grade B at Christmas, with Farclas third.

Farclas, a former Triumph Hurdle winner, has scored only on good going in his chasing career, and needs the ground to continue drying, whereas Minella Times is 2-2 on soft, and the stable is on a high after Honeysuckle’s win yesterday.

Off You Go is the McManus hidden horse at BETDAQ 15.0. His jumping has not been up to it in faster contests over shorter but he’s closely related on the dam’s side to an Irish Grand National winner.

Beaten by both Minella Times and Crossed My Mind in autumn chases, Treacysenniscothy got the better of a subsequent Punchestown winner at Cork the last day.
