FLIGHTLINE DOES IT JUST FOR KICKS

Lexington loved us. Without a lasixed horse in site, the grass races outdid the dirt as American punters roared home Coolmore and Godolphin at a sensational Breeders Cup. But they knew the best would be last.

Dirt had its day in the Classic finale to the 15-race Keeneland meeting as Flightline kicked 12 lengths clear of Life Is Good, who will now be known as the horse that dared match strides with an all-time champion.

The racing world gasped in that moment as Flightline strode on into history and Life Is Good faded into the pack that try as they might couldn’t get within eight lengths of disturbing the winner.

He had kick on the turn and kick in the straight that hasn’t been seen since Secretariat.

Jockey of the meeting: Tyler Gaffalione, who won the Sprint in a blanket finish on Caravel over Kevin Ryan’s Emaraaty Ana and Charlie Appleby’s Creative Force.

He also won Friday’s Juvenile Fillies on Wonder Wheel. Roll of honour of English and Irish trainers and jockeys:

Charlie Appleby Mischief Magic (W. Buick, Juvenile Turf Sprint); Modern Games (W. Buick, Mile); Rebel’s Romance (J. Doyle, Breeders Cup Turf).

Aidan O’Brien Meditate (R. Moore, Juvenile Fillies Turf); Victoria Road (R.Moore, Juvenile Turf), Tuesday (R. Moore, Filly And Mare Turf).

LONG WINTER WAIT FOR ‘DUKE’ WELD

⭕ 2.57 Naas (Finale Stakes) I’m tipping Dermot Weld for a winning finale to the Flat.. and a very long winter!

The 74-year-old has to stay cool and keep the wraps on his most exciting prospect for years in Tahiyra, after the winter-warmer provided by Meditate at the Breeders Cup.

The early Christmas present was Meditate’s superb strike in the fillies’ juvenile at Keeneland, thrashing three dual American winners.

How good, then, is Tahiyra, who went clear of Aidan O’Brien’s filly in the Moyglare at the Curragh in September?

Today’s Weld finale could be Duke De Sessa, who drops down to this Listed from a string of eight Group contests, among them a Group-3 September success at Leopardstown.

A long season? Don’t worry; he had a mid-term break and came back better than ever when the soft ground arrived. BETDAQ 3.1.

RACHAEL LEADS THE CHARGE AT 19.5

⭕ 3.13 Cork Grand National Sixteen minutes after the Flat finale, the Grand National season opens at Cork with a wide open race (6.8 the field in the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE)

The favourite has won only once in the decade and SPs of 14-1 (twice), 16-1, 18-1 and 40-1 show just how hard it is to find the winner.

Eight out of 10 come from below 11st but last year’s first three were 11st 7lb (Braeside), 11st 6lb (Screaming Colours) and 11st 8lb (Mister Fogpatches), all back for more today and all carrying more than 11st again.

I fancy a bit of win and place Fully Charged, whose dam’s side goes back to the grand staying mare, Quickapenny.

Fully Charged was so highly regarded last year that, after back-to-back chase wins at this time in the autumn, he was saddled for the big Christmas chase at Leopardstown.

Things didn’t work out but he’d shown that he is at his best when fresh and, after a further break, was third in another Grade B, the Pat Taaffe Chase at the Punchestown festival, maintaining a strong gallop all the way.

Betdaq Betting Exchange value: Rachael Blackmore takes over but Fully Charged was 19.5 this morning.

MONVIEL CAN BEAT THE BIG GUNS

⭕ 3.05 Sandown After 12 winners in the first five days of November, Paul Nicholls runs six at Sandown this afternoon.

He clashes with arch-rival Nicky Henderson in this 2m handicap hurdle, Nicholls hoping that a wind op will improve Irish Hill, Henderson that Gipsy De Choisel, who got his head in front at Warwick in the Spring, can go on from there this season, albeit the race was run in a desperately slow time.

I prefer Monviel, who is a course-and-distance winner thrown in at the deep-end during his novice career, but not disgraced in the Imperial Cup, again at Sandown.

BETDAQ value 5.6 Monviel

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
