⭕ 2.50 Longchamp, going soft (French 2,000 Guineas) Rare, if not unique situation where both the Newmarket Guineas winners run in the French equivalents today, within a fortnight of their Classic success. The going was on top for both at Newmarket; today it’s soft.
Winning trainers: Andre Fabre 6, Aidan O’Brien 4. Eight winners in a row at Longchamp (ignoring substitute runnings at Chantilly) have been drawn in the first five stalls: gate 1 (twice), 2 (twice), 3 (three times) and five (once).
1 Poetic Flare (Kevin Manning, stall 4) Four out of five; twice a winner on the soft, but won the Irish 2,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown and then the Newmarket 2,000 on sound surfaces.
2 Sealiway (Frederic Rossi, stall 8) Won the Lagardere (7f heavy) eight lengths at the Arc meeting in October from Coventry winner Nando Parrado, who was well-beaten fourth to Chindit and Mehmento in the Greenham.
Half-length runner-up to the giant Policy of Truth in the Prix Fontainebleau (1m Longchamp, good) in April, with Parchemin fifth, but Sealiway could reverse the placings on soft ground.
3 Policy Of Truth (Pia and Joackim Brandt, stall 5) Group-3 winner at Longchamp (1m, good) in the autumn, when fourth on heavy to Van Gogh in the 1m Criterium International at Saint-Cloud (keen hold, faded), with front-runner Normandy Bridge well beaten run-up. See Sealiway.
4 St Mark’s Basilica (Aidan O’Brien, stall 6) Won the Dewhurst Stakes on the soft at Newmarket in October, but second and third were only 11th and 14th behind Poetic Flare in the English 2,000 Guineas.
5 Mehmento (Archie Watson, stall 3) Led until beaten close home by Chindit in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury (7f, good, Group 3) last month. Dual winner on AW as a juvenile; not run with cut in the ground.
6 Parchemin (Andre Fabre, stall 1)) All out to beat Colosseo at Deauville (heavy) in October; weakened final 100 yards, fifth in blanket finish to Classic-trial Prix Fontainebleau (1m Longchamp, good) in April. See Sealiway.

1 Philomene (Andre Fabre, stall 6) Godolphin’s equine princess of the party, as a 1.6m-euro yearling half-sister to Irish Oaks winner Chicquita, she has finished both her races (2-2) strongly.
Won the Prix de la Cascade over today’s CD in September, which has launched several star fillies including the Arc heroine Zarkava. Needs a strong pace, dropped in trip.
2 Silvestri (Carlos Laffon-Parias, stall 9) Daughter of Siyouni, sire of St Mark’s Basilica, of the Arc winner Sottsass, and of previous winners of today’s Guineas, Ervedya (2015) and Dream And Do (2020).
Second in a blanket finish to the Classic-pointer Prix de la Grotte (good), with King’s Harlequin third (drawn wide today).
3 Mother Earth (Aidan O’Brien, stall 4) Placed in the Fillies’ Mile and the Breeders Cup Fillies Juvenile, she won the Newmarket 1,000 (firm ground) with a sustained run, though rejected by Ryan Moore, who was on the fifth Santa Barbara. Well drawn.
4 Sweet Lady (Francis Graffard, stall 1) Slammed Tiger Tanaka six lengths on heavy at Saint-Cloud in March. Odds on, came from behind and just failed in the Prix de la Grotte (good ground) on the last day.
5 Reine Madre (Mauricio Delcher Sanchez, stall 3) Surprise winner of the top flies’ trial Prix Imprudence for her Spanish connections and is by the magnificent miler-stallion Kingman, sire of yesterday’s so-impressive Palace Pier. Well drawn.
Lullaby Moon (Ralph Beckett, stall 8) Beckett usually has a good filly every season and this one loves soft ground: 6-7f form, 7f breeding, so stamina for this not certain. Lack of a recent run is a worry, and has tricky draw.
Miss Amulet (Ken Condon, stall 13) Won the Lowther Stakes at York (6f) and a neck behind Mother Earth when third in the Breeders Cup Fillies Juvenile. Bags of experience but this is her first run back this term and badly drawn for a stable in moderate form (1-15 and missing strike latest with two seconds and a third, all well backed).
Tiger Tanaka (Charley Rossi, stall 11) Six wins out of seven last year, including the Marcel Boussac fillies’ criterium on heavy. Beaten favourite over further on her return and badly drawn.
