IT’S A TRIUMPHANT FLAT FINALE FOR DAQMAN So well did Daqman bankroll his tilt at the November Handicap with winners earlier in the afternoon that he finished in front on the day even though his big-race bets lost. His Saturday profit was 22 points.

WON 2-1 DONJUAN TRIUMPHANT (4.3 BETDAQ)
WON (2nd 6-1) KING’S ODYSSEY (high place stake)
WON 5-2 VERDANA BLUE (Elite Hurdle, Wincanton)

HE FINISHES 248 POINTS UP ON PRICEWISE: Daqman beat Pricewise of the Racing Post by 60 winning bets (87-27) in the 2018 Flat season just ended, making 100 points profit. That put 248 points of clear water between his profit and a Pricewise loss to single-unit stakes (+100 to -148).

OVERNIGHT DELUGE SUITS SEVARANO

A bright morning in Esher but the heavens opened yesterday with an inch of rain since 3pm forcing clerk of the course Andrew Cooper to change the going to Chase: Soft, Hurdle: Heavy, Soft places. It’s a similar story at Ffos Las where the ground will be very testing and is now officially Heavy, Soft in Places.

A dry day is forecast at Navan where it’s Good ground ahead of their decent card.

1.35 Navan (Lismullen Hurdle) Apple’s Jade made all to land the odds in this year and will be a short price again to follow up. A word off warning though: she has been beaten at odds on in her last two races and a few of Gordon Elliott’s have been needing the run so it might pay to take a chance with Identity Thief.

There’s not much between the pair on official ratings and Identity Thief proved himself a top class stayer with his win in the Grade 1 Stayers Hurdle at Aintree last season but should still be effective over this shorter trip.

1.50 Sandown The softer ground should please Oliver Sherwood as he sends his immensely promising Sevarano into action over hurdles for the first time.

The five-year-old made a winning start on soft ground at Kempton last season to win his bumper in the style of a very good horse and then stepped up in class to finish fifth in a Grade 2 bumper at Aintree. The form of that race has worked out particularly well.

This doesn’t look a particularly tough maiden hurdle by Sandown standards and he should make a winning start over timber.

Finawn Bawn won a bumper impressively last season ay Ayr but it came on good ground and this is obviously much tougher.

Philip Hobbs is back in good form and his Oakley could very well have place prospects. He ran well in two bumpers last season.

4.10 Ffos Las Katie Connell is the least exposed runner here and has an interesting profile but has no experience on testing ground.

It may be safer to rely on the bigger priced Queen Of The Wind. The Colin Tizzard trained runner won at Southwell an soft ground in March and may have needed her first run of the season back at the course a couple of weeks ago. This looks more her trip and there are serious ground question marks over several of her rivals.
