DAQMAN SHOWS HIS CLASS AS HE LANDS 6.0 NAP: Five to pick from, five placed, two of them winners. That’s what happened when Daqman concentrated on the big Saturday races, and dared nap a BETDAQ 6.0 shot in a big field at Newbury. Then he opposed the odds-on Aidan O’Brien favourite in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh. Results:

WON 11-4 STRATUM (JLT Cup, 6.0 nap on BETDAQ)
WON 11-4 SEA OF CLASS (Irish Oaks)

NOW 31 WINS, 139 POINTS CLEAR OF PRICEWISE: Stratum took Daqman to win number 48 over Pricewise, 139 points clear to a single-unit level stake. The scores are now 48-17 (Daqman +61, Pricewise -78).

SUPERNAPS DOUBLE: FLAT AND OVER THE JUMPS: It’s another daring day today with a supernaps double, one on the Flat at Redcar and one over jumps at Newton Abbot. But first Daqman previews the big races at the Curragh and Maisons-Laffitte.

SEXY COLT MAY SNARE SIGNORA

1.35 Maisons-Laffitte (Prix Robert Papin) The Robert Papin hasn’t produced a top-class colt since Blushing Groom (1976) completed a sensational French two-year-olds’ four-timer – Papin, Morny, Salamandre, Criterium – and carried his form forward to become European champion three-year-old miler of 1977. He surpassed all his track accolades at stud.

When you remember these, remember him. He sired Arazi, Blushing John, Nashwan, Rainbow Quest and Snow Bride among 92 stakes winners and further along the bloodline is responsible for two other Derby winners, Kahyasi and Lammtara.

Topically, the Robert Papin has produced super fillies Ma Biche, Natagora and Special Duty, and could throw up another one today; this time English.

There are mixed results so far from Signora Cabello’s Queen Mary win. Runner-up Gossamer Wings (Aidan O’Brien) has been beaten since and the fifth has lost twice.

O’Brien doesn’t take the Signora on again today. But the fourth filly home in the Queen Mary, which he also trains, redeemed the form to some extent by winning a Group 3 at the Curragh.

Signora Cabello was making it three wins in a row when she bagged the Queen Mary, seemingly taking a big stride forward. The runner-up in a big field at York when she won earlier was a long way in rear at Ascot.

John Quinn has booked Frankie Dettori today to see how she gets on with the colts, two out of four of them also English.

Signora’s hat-trick was all on good to firm but, whereas Maisons took some of the continent’s wet weather, a thinned out version of which came over to UK, Saturday was fine and cloudy while today has sunshine and a return to 28degs.

Robert Cowell’s Pocket Dynamo was beaten a nose in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, closing at the finish on one of those Wesley Ward flying machines.

Simply Striking has won 2-2 at Maisons; Sexy Metro just the one but a better class race.

There’s collateral form here, if it’s worth anything at this early stage: the length-and-a-quarter runner-up to Sexy Metro had earlier closed down Pocket Dynamo to a head.

On that evidence, I can’t see why the Racing Post Ratings have Pocket Dynamo on 117 and Sexy Metro on 113 but I haven’t been able to view either race and don’t have French ratings of my own. I’ll just be cussed and bet a pound they are wrong!

HAVANA CAN LIGHT UP THE SPRINT

2.55 The Curragh (Sapphire Stakes) Every one of these sprinters has Group-1 entries. It’s another game of Ballydoyle tactics with three of the seven runners.

But for the last three seasons – and six out of 10 in the decade – English raiders have come out on top.

In that time Aidan O’Brien is the only trainer to saddle a three-year-old to win but Battle Of Jericho has to find another 11lb to hold on to a recent short-head verdict over last year’s winner of this, Caspian Prince, for whom champion jockey Colin Keane has been booked.

Battle Of Jericho and the two other O’Brien runners were all three beaten eight lengths or more in the Kings Stand Stakes, when the filly Mabs Cross was third.

Mabs Cross is short this morning because of that, and Caspian Prince’s running depends on there being no rain or little of it (showers forecast).

Havana Grey was favourite to beat Mabs Cross earlier in the season but has been slow to come to hand. My man in the long grass says the grey is bouncing now after a break.

This is a race of regular upsets and I could be treating myself to a Havana on 9.8 BETDAQ offers though, if there’s no rain, I shall also be on Caspian Prince. Margins not good.

IT’S THE O’BRIEN FAMILY PICNIC

3.30 The Curragh Another Group 2; another Aidan O’Brien overload: four runners in the seven-strong field, two of them with the by now familiar Ballydoyle tongue-in-cheek disclaimer: ‘Just ready to start back.’

With two of the three others trained Joseph O’Brien, this is a family affair, Jessica Harrington the odd one out with the four-year-old I’m So Fancy, giving weight all round but a winner only at Listed level.

Any rain would help Damselfly and Magical, who has already been beaten by September.

Like Magical, September has missed both English and Irish Oaks but beat her earlier soft-ground conqueror Magical when second to Laurens in the Fillies Mile on a sound surface. That’s now the best form here by a long chalk.

COTTON ON TO THIS NAPS DOUBLE

SUPERNAPS DOUBLE: 5.30 Redcar I hope you can still get on Rhigolter Rose, as the field cuts up. I got 85-100 on BETDAQ, with the William Haggis stable flying (12-25 for a 48% strike rate).

1.50 Newton Abbot Another good thing could be Cotton Club over hurdles. The extra distance and cheekpieces should make it easy and land a solo raid by Dr Richard Newland, who has an even better strike rate (64% with 7-11).
