TRUE! A WINNER ON THREE DAYS IN A ROW: Daqman, who had at least one winner a day on FOURTEEEN consecutive days up to the Arc, has started another sequence, with THREE in a row since Sunday:

WON 6-4 True Self (yesterday)
WON 5-1 Sesame (Tuesday)
WON 7-2 Ginger Fox (nap, Monday)

RIP ROARING BID FOR THE CHAMPION MILE: The Champions Day declarations, revealed this morning, follow the lines Daqman expected with Roaring Lion dropping back to a mile.

PLACE PLAY TO PAY FOR BIG OUTSIDERS: Today’s bets at Brighton, Carlisle, Chelmsford and Wolverhampton try to track down some outsiders. But they open with a place bet which could pay for most of the day.

GOSDEN’S £2m CHAMPION YANKEE

I told you so. My Champions Day previews have been based on John Gosden dividing his fire power between the £655k-to-the-winner Queen Elizabeth 11 Stakes, known as the Champions Mile (Roaring Lion), and the £737k Champion Stakes (Cracksman). That was confirmed this morning.

Why have one beating the other? That would be splitting a big-money prize and leaving another blowing in the wind, at the same time taking the edge off one colt’s record before going to stud.

After becoming reigning champion at 10 furlongs in Dante, Eclipse, International and Irish Champion, Roaring Lion will hardly lose face at the mile but could gain considerable kudos.

Cracksman clearly had to attempt back-to-back wins in the Champion Stakes, with a small field and the ground come in his favour.

Gosden now has four main arrows in his quiver, with Stradivarius in the Long Distance Cup (£300k) and Lah Ti Dar (£340k) in the Fillies And Mares for a potential yankee worth £2m.

PLAY THEATRE FOR A PLACE

3.45 Carlisle Tintern Theatre’s form when fresh is 232. He has always had a break in October, but here he is trying to cash in on the stable’s five winners in 12 days. Just as he does today, three out of four winners of this carried 11st 11lb-12lb.

At 5.8 on BETDAQ, there is enough available in the place market to allow a small win bet and still double my money for the place.

4.40 Brighton Entertaining Ben is a big price for one who made all over the course and distance in August, and is just 5lb higher now.

‘Ben’ beat Haylah that summer’s day by about a stone in weight equivalent, after that one had been some 8lb in arrears of Soumei.

Soumei is one of the favourites in this today, at 4.2 this morning, conceding 5lb to Entertaining Ben, who is nicely drawn in stall 3 to kickstart this contest at offers of 27.0.

5.30 Carlisle Word has it that this is a contest packed with future winners. Even The Queen of England has a runner, Heather Song, from a useful bumper family.

Stuart Crawford (Rashee) is 7-11 with his bumper raiders to this track; and Kalifornia’s yard (Henry Daly’s) currently has a 50% strike rate.

But Philip Hobbs bumper horses are in top form and, now he has Cedar Valley right, he wants to run her where the ground is soft.

A 4.1 offer on BETDAQ, she drops down from Grade 2 and could be back climbing through the ranks after this class 5.

7.00 Wolverhampton Baltic Prince, Critical Thinking and Art Echo have all won over this Wolver CD in double-figure fields, all three of them from stall 10.

Art Echo (in 10, of course) could bounce back, second run after a 10-week break. BETDAQ 15.0

7.15 Chelmsford Pearl Spectre and Nicola Currie won over today’s CD last November and did the same for Callum Shepherd the year before.

On both occasions, he ran into form after two runs back from his summer break, as now. A huge 43.0.

A bit daunting that, so I turn to Field Gun (4.3) as my main bet. A winner here in August and with cheekpieces to help.
