SUPERNAP GAMBLE! DAQMAN MAKES IT SIX OUT OF EIGHT: Daqman secured some odds against about his supernap yesterday, thanks to the trade-paper headlines for Lord Scoundrel in the hunter chase at Musselburgh. But the market positions were reversed as the ‘off’ drew closer and Virak was an impressive winner, gambled in to 2-1 on. It was winning nap number six out of eight.

SECRET IS OUT – CRYPTO A NAP

1.40 Ludlow Crypto looks a solid nap to start the Ludlow card for trainer Venetia Williams and jockey Charlie Deutsch.

It’s a weak contest and Crypto showed he was well above average when winning a Newcastle bumper by 16 lengths on debut, making all the running.

He struggled under a penalty (as a lot of horses do in bumpers) when sent off favourite at Haydock in December and could only finish fifth but that came after a lengthy 300 day break and he should be a little more wound up for his hurdling debut here.

Whilst his form looks more than good enough, it’s more the question marks over his rivals that make him a nap.

Second favourite Jaunty Viking finished stone last in his first two starts and then finished a 100/1 third on his hurdling debut over course and distance last time out. The form can probably be taken with a pinch of salt as the front two in the betting dominated the race and there was another 100/1 chance back in fourth.

Feel The Pinch was a 33/1 winner at Uttoxeter two starts ago but then a disappointing 10th over course and distance here last time out. The ride caught the attention of the stewards that day as he appeared to be given an easy time of things but I think the biggest problem again for him here is the weight he has to give away.

Proton didn’t show much on his first start over hurdles but should improve and does have some good flat form to his name.

3.25 Ludlow Cap St Vincent scarped home by a head to win a similar contest at Taunton last time out but the resulting 5lb hike looks harsh, even in a race where there is a lack of strong recent form.

Five of the six runners are virtually inseparable in the market (see right for odd this morning) and it may pay to stick with the Williams/Deutsch axis again with Roll Again.

The if, and probably a big ‘if’ is that you need to forgive a poor run at Worcester last time out but prior to that he showed plenty of zip over course and distance when making all to win by three lengths (beating Bobo Mac) in the same class 3 level as today and he gets the same soft ground. I hope, and think he will try and make the running again today.

Bobo Mac also comes into this on the back of a poor effort, at Warwick where the longer trip may have found him out but has obvious chances if earlier form can be repeated.

3.40 Newcastle A class 2 handicap over two miles where Carnwennan should again go close having just been collared at Kempton last time out.

Padleyourowncanoe goes for a hat-trick and gave me a winner when scoring at Southwell last time out but he’s up a full 11lb for that win. Handicappers don’t like DAQMAN tips winning by 10 lengths on the flat!
