HENDERSON’S PRINCESS TO SCORE AT TAUNTON

Three meetings in the UK this afternoon in both codes. Taunton and Ludlow host jumps meetings with Wolverhampton on the Tapeta and I have found the best bets from all three meetings.

LUDLOW Two selections at Ludlow with today’s Nap running in the second race. This looks like being quite a competitive event with some decent sorts taking part.

Brassick is a nice sort and a horse I like however, having not been seen for 424 days, he will need to be very fit to be a couple of these that are well campaigned at this stage. In saying that, he could go close and is definitely a horse to follow during the summer when he gets on better ground.

Loose Chips was the winner of the Grand Military Gold Cup at Sandown the week before Cheltenham beating yesterday’s Nap Merrion Square who made the headlines yesterday for his spectacular disposal of Lewis Ferguson at the last. It looked like he was going to score prior to getting rid of his pilot.

The Nap though, is A Good Skin who still looks nicely handicapped for today’s race. He finished in his first two Chases being beaten both times by unexposed horses. First time out he finished second to Catching On who went on to go off 5/2 favourite for the Midlands National but parted company with AP McCoy after just fences.

Both of those runs have had their form franked since and off 125, he could have a little more up his sleeve for a formidable team in Paddy Brennan and Tom George.

Later on in the card at Ludlow, the Handicap Chase 4.00 seems to be a good opportunity for It’s A Steal who didn’t get home in his last two runs over 3 miles. He drops back to two and a half miles today twinned with a slight drop in the Handicap and he should be able to follow up his success over course and distance in December.

TAUNTON A Novices Handicap Hurdle over two miles and a furlong which looks like another competitive race.

Nicky Henderson sends Princess Ombu for it where she could be able to get off the mark over Hurdles at her fifth attempt. Having only ran on the flat once, there is nothing to go by but her hurdles form has been relatively solid in races won by Stars Over The Sea and Golden Doyen. She then got closer to Cooking Fat (rated 120 despite being a 66/1 winner) and Ultimate Act (rated 123) last time out.

That form so far should prove to be good enough to win a race like this and coming onto better ground should also see an improvement.

WOLVERHAMPTON On the Flat at Wolverhampton, again just the one selection but this looks to be a great value bet at 3.40.

Off The Pulse is on the hat-trick trail today following on from two close wins over course and distance where Perfect Cracker finished third both times. The form of both races is very strong with several winners coming from both races.

While a case can also be made for Coillte Cailin on similar grounds, she was unable to cope with the step up in class last time out finishing third behind Perfect Cracker and may be best watched today.
