NOW IT’S FOUR LOVE AS LAYS LOGIC DOWNS ANOTHER FAVOURITE: Daqman is looking for another favourite to oppose on the final day of Newmarket after his Lays Logic pitched reasons why Love Is You (3rd 11-4) would not win the Nell Gwyn Stakes yesterday.

Lays Logic current sequence: 4-4
Value challenge: Daqman 8 Pricewise 5

BUT DAQMAN IS EXPECTING THE ABERNANT HOT-SHOT TO DELIVER: Cheltenham and Newmarket again do a double act today, with Daqman tipping an outsider in the Craven Stakes but following the favourite in the Abernant. Headlines:

CASTLE 14.5 BETDAQ HIT FOR HAYLEY

⚠️ HEADS UP: Winning trainers at the Newmarket Craven Meeting this week so far: William Haggas 3, Andrew Balding 2, Charlie Appleby 1, George Boughey 1, Robert Cowell 1, John and Thady Gosden 1, Charles Hills 1, Mark Johnston 1, Amanda Perrett 1, Chris Wall 1, Stuart Williams 1.

⭕ 1.50 Newmarket Charlie Appleby, who had the one-two in the Fielden on Tuesday, saddles Creative Force, winner of his maiden over todays’ course and distance.

But it is rare for anything carrying 9st or more to win this (1-10), so it may be worth taking a chance at the weights on Skibo Castle, who is actually a pound out of the handicap.

Andrew Balding, striking at 23%, has booked Hayley Turner for the Windsor winner who has been gelded for this season.

Balding was in good form yesterday with Tactical winning the Free Handicap and Chil Chil just run out of it in the sprint.

Skibo Castle’s dam was a Group 3 scorer and sister of a Prix de l’Abbaye European champion sprinter

Betdaq value 14.5 Skibo Castle

SCHOLASTIC VALUE ON THE GROUND

⭕ 2.05 Cheltenham Run for cover! The Irish are back at Cheltenham or, at least, Joseph O’Brien is.

In fact, he was out of form at the time of the Cheltenham festival but came back last week with three strikes at Gowran Park and a big winner at Aintree with Fakir d’Oudairies, and yesterday had a treble.

Scholastic’s hurdles CV of only 1-9 looks much better when reduced to goodish ground only: 32123 (his recent AW form and Flat form on good together make 1012143).

Scholastic (BETDAQ 2.9) was third at Fairyhouse to Jeff Kidder after that one won the old Fred Winter at Cheltenham, with Her Indoors (holds Talking About You), 18 lengths adrift.

Progressive represents Nicky Henderson, who has had a lean time lately (6-47) with only 2-27 at Aintree: seven in a sequence of 13 there pulled up.

SOLVE WOOD DITTON WITH IRONSIDE

⭕ 2.25 Newmarket (Wood Ditton Stakes) Used to be the punters’ guide to innumerable future winners from those who were beaten in this race.

But there are mixed results these days: the 2019 second was afterwards 0-12 but the third horse home won his next three out of four.

There has been no winner with a single-figure draw in eight consecutive seasons with seven successful from stalls 10, 11, 12 or 13. It’s all good for Ironside’s chances from 10.

John and Thady Gosden’s last four winners (from 8-36 in the last fortnight) have been maidens and a novice, so the BETDAQ offers look value for both draw and stable form.

A 155,000-euro foal, Ironside caught the eye as a yearling and was sold for 500,000 guineas. He’s straight enough at home.

Betdaq value 7.2 Ironside

OXTED WELL CLEAR IN THE RATINGS

⭕ 3.00 Newmarket (Abernant Stakes) Oxted looks set for back-to-back wins in this race, as Brando did for Kevin Ryan in 2017-18.

Ryan’s Emaraaty Ana has had wind ops to try to return him to the form of his juvenile days when he won the Gimcrack at York and was a solid fifth in the Group-1 Middle Park.

He could manage only third to Oxted last year as the tail-end of a fantastic Ryan run in the race of 111133, which includes the Brando double.

Ana tried to make all in the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster’s opening Lincoln meeting last month but was run out of it by Royal Commando.

Summerghand, fourth that day, has since won the Sprint Championship at the AW finals earlier this month, while Oxted has had a run back in Dubai.

Oxted should now be at peak and is 11lb and 16lb clear of Summerghand and Emaraaty Ana on official ratings.

DEVIL TO PAY IN THE CRAVEN STAKES

⭕ 3.35 Newmarket (Craven Stakes) Nine winners out of 10 drawn 1 to 5, with the successful trainers of the last two years, William Haggas and Charlie Appleby, in winning form at the meeting this week.

Devilwala represents the form of the Dewhurst Stakes, in which he was fourth to the Aidan O’Brien big two St Mark’s Basilica and Wembley, who are 8.0 and 6.5 in BETDAQ Sportsbook for the 2,000 Guineas. Devilwala is 50.0.

Master Of The Seas (Charlie Appleby) was fourth when Wembley and St Mark’s Basilica were beaten by Thunder Moon in the National Stakes at The Curragh. He’s 17.0 for the Guineas before today’s race.

It’s another tough one for punters with the dual entries of Master Of The Seas and La Barrosa for Appleby and Khartoum and Sandhurst for Aidan O’Brien.

Classic trials are a trial for punters, and you should just have a flutter. I did that yesterday in the Nell Gwyn, and was pleased with my outsider Chocaya (4th 20-1 from 37.0 on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE), who looks a good bet to win a 6f race of substance later on. Here goes, opposing the favourite again:

Betdaq value Devilwala 10.0

Lays Logic Master Of The Seas is hooded, after looking headstrong in Dubai on the last day when beaten by Naval Crown, who in turn was beaten favourite in the Free Handicap yesterday.
