DAQMAN OPPOSES THE BIG-RACE FAVOURITE: It’s the opening day of the Newmarket July meeting and Daqman stands by proven two-year-old form in the July Stakes for a top stable over the poor strike rate brought to the table by the favourite’s connections.

STARS CAN WALK THE WALK AGAIN

⭕ 1.50 Newmarket (Bahrain Trophy; 1m 5f Group 3): Derby and Royal Ascot defeated make up the entire field.

Masekela was fourth at Epsom but five-and-a-half lengths and more adrift of Derby winners Desert Crown (eased-down winner that day) and Westover, whose Irish Derby victory has him within 3lb over Desert Crown.

Walk of Stars has been gelded since last of 17 at Epsom, where he didn’t like the track but clearly also had other things on his mind. He’d been runner-up in a Lingfield Derby Trial which has little to shout about.

Zechariah, last at Lingfield, was beaten only a nose in the Queens Vase, just in front of Hafit, who had finished a neck down on Walk of Stars at Newbury in April, and five lengths in front of Al Quareem (Green Team 7th).

So it looks close between Masekela and Zechariah and BETDAQ offers add up to only 102% so making their their 3.25 and 3.95 feasible. But a Walk Of Stars on his best behaviour looks big at 4.6.

BEAR WON’T BE TAKEN BY FORCE..

⭕ 2.25 Newmarket (July Stakes, 6f, Group 2) Team Hannon (Persian Force) has won this five times in the decade but is still showing a poor strike rate (7-62).

Persian Force was second in the Coventry at Royal Ascot, with Waiting All Night (fifth), Harry Time (8th) and Show Respect (11th) behind.

The only colt to get near the giant Little Big Bear in the Windsor Castle Stakes was Rocket Rodney, who powered clear at Sandown on the first of the month, and I give Bear the edge with Ryan Moore riding better than ever this season, and Team Hannon hard to rely on.

Betdaq Betting Exchange : 2.9 Little Big Bear

SPRINT DOOR IS AJAR FOR HAGGAS

⭕ 3.00 Newmarket (6f handicap) High numbers feature in the last nine winners by stall: 15, 16, 15, 3, 19, 8, 20, 12 and 16.

Again, there are Hannon runners (Bosh 17, Gisburn 19) and some from the stables of Richard Fahey and Tim Easterby, who also remain out of form.

Deodar takes a keen hold and blinkers and the furlong drop back from his 7f third on the course in June should help.

It’s also a dive in class from the pattern for Hierarchy. He has a lot of weight but comes out of stall 18 on the side where Ingra Tor (15) and Twelfth Knight (12) are likely to set a strong pace.

Khanjar (13) is up 9lb but came clear at Ripon after being gelded and is unexposed after only four outings for one of the trainers of the year, William Haggas.

Bosh (17) is back to his winning trip after being given too much to do over 7f at Goodwood but we’re back to this: can you rely on a Hannon runner?

BETDAQ value 5.3 Khanjar, 14 Deodar

YBIR CAN STEP UP IN THIS COMPANY

⭕ 3.35 Newmarket (1m 4f, Group 2) Charlie Appleby, who won the Bahrain Stakes last year with Ybir runs that one in this grade higher, a furlong shorter. The firmish ground is in his favour, and he has the edge on Mostahdaf on a line through Broome. BETDAQ 2.46

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
