4.7 BETDAQ OFFER TAKEN IN BOLD HAT-TRICK BID: Daqman analyses the big two races at Gowran Park today, the Galmoy Hurdle and Thyestes Chase. But goes for the naps hat-trick at Southwell with a 4.7 offer on BETDAQ this morning.

GALMOY PRESENTED TO PERCY

1.50 Gowran Park (Galmoy Hurdle) Subsequent Galway Plate and Cheltenham Ryanair runners-up have won this in the last two years off 152 and 156.

One of them, Alpha Des Obeaux, is back for a double two years on, just 2lb higher now on 154, after 14 consecutive races over fences, in which he is of similar quality.

But Mouse Morris still sees Alpha Des Obeaux as a nearly horse, ‘just that bit short of the real McCoy.’

Pertemps Final winner, Presenting Percy, is one of the favourites for the RSA Chase at Cheltenham but is rated 156 over hurdles for that day of Cheltenham glory and escapes penalties here, so they just have to run him.

Let’s Dance won the Mares Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham on the same day as Presenting Percy’s Pertemps victory, but Percy’s win was over 3m, Let’s Dance over 2m, and this is a big step up from his maximum winning distance to date (2m 4f).

There’s not much between Let’s Dance and Augusta Kate, who won narrowly over her stable companion at level weights at the Fairyhouse Festival.

Diamond Cauchois powered through the mud at Navan on the last day but there’s nothing in his pedigree to suggest that 3m is needed.

Leading jockey Davy Russell has finished in the frame in 17 of his last 19 starts, still standing, and Presenting Percy can land his first Graded race, best in at the weights.

PLEASANT OFFER OF COMPANY

3.00 Gowran Park (Thyestes Chase) Six-times winner of this, including with Djakadam, Willie Mullins, fields three outsiders here.

But greedy Gordon Elliott has six starters, three of them leading the market, three of them propping it up.

Is there A Genie In Abottle among the remaining six to spoil the Mullins-Elliott fight? Noel Meade’s eponymous seven-year-old scored back to back in the autumn but hardly raised his rating and has always been a nearly horse in Graded company.

When his stablemate Wounded Warrior won a Grade-2 novice, it was three years ago now, and he doesn’t go well clockwise.

That leaves Mullins’ Pleasant Company as the only top-flight winner in the field, taking the Grade-B Pat Taaffe and the Grade-3 Bobbyjo either side of his Thyestes fourth a year ago, when he was returning from a long absence.

Pleasant Company is better off here with winner and second that day, Champagne West and Ucello Conti (also previously third in the race), and was in need of the run when down the field over Christmas in the PP Chase at Leopardstown.

Conti ran another cracker in that Grade B, runner-up to Anibale Flyer, but has never made it into the winner’s enclosure on a right-handed track.

Like Fine Theatre, Flaxen Flare and Space Cadet, Ucello Conti has yet to win over 3m and stamina will be needed today.

Out Sam, only 10th at Leopardstown, was having his first run for Gordon Elliott and was the talking horse in the market overnight, with James ‘Big Race’ Bowen booked, and now very short for what he’s done.

VERDICT: The run on Out Sam, the obvious exposed form of Ucello Conti, and his moderate PP Chase reappearance at Leopardstown pushed Pleasant Company out to 14.0 offers in the BETDAQ orange at one stage this morning (quickly taken but claims for 11.0 or 12.0 are justified). A win-50 bet requires 4.5 points at 12.0.

‘MACH’ TICKS ALL THE BOXES

2.10 Southwell Two out of two at Southwell, and wins when fresh if his stable is in form. Roger Fell’s current returns of 13410310 suggest that today’s the day: BETDAQ 4.8 Zylan.

3.55 Southwell An improver dropped in class, returning to CD for a trainer in form, clear in the markets but 4.7 on BETDAQ. Mach One ticks a lot of boxes.
