CHELTENHAM ENTRIES TODAY

FORTUNE COOKIES: Some Cheltenham entries close at noon today and I’ll hope to start scrutinising them during the week.

I’ll also be looking in the next few weeks to spot value when I hear of the likely directions of those multi-engaged.

For example, Mount Ida’s new target of the Mares Chase (see Daqman yesterday), and the emergence of Ginto as a potential player on the big scene.

I’ve kept centre stage for Bravemansgame in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase, despite the new threat from Galopin des Champs, who went to the front of the market after a chase debut at Leopardstown which some observers found ‘staggering’, others thought ‘too good to be true’. Revised list:

🏇 Allaho (Willie Mullins) Last month’s John Durkan winner could head for a Ryanair repeat at Cheltenham without another run, say connections.

🏇 A Plus Tard (Henry de Bromhead) Edged out by Galvin in the Savills Chase but still on course for gold at Cheltenham.

🏇 Blazing Khal (Charles Byrnes) Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle.

🏇 Bravemansgame (Paul Nicholls) Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase.

🏇 Commodore (Venetia Williams) Striking grey who is an accurate jumper.

🏇 Edwardstone (Alan King) ‘The Kingmaker is ideal’ before the Arkle.

🏇 Fil Dor (Gordon Elliott) Unbeaten in Ireland,; goes for the Triumph Hurdle.

🏇 Ginto (Gordon Elliott) ‘The better the race the better he’ll be.’ The last two winners of the Naas novice hurdle he won on Sunday have landed the Ballymore, where he could clash with Stage Star.

🏇 Jonbon (Nicky Henderson) Likely to have one run before the Supreme Hurdle at Cheltenham. His rival in the market, Constitution Hill, is likely favourite for the Tolworth Hurdle on Saturday.

🏇 Mount Ida (Gordon Elliott) See yesterday’s Daqman story

🏇 Protektorat (Dan Skelton) Ryanair and Gold Cup entries.

🏇 Redemption Day (Willie Mullins) Champion Bumper banker already?

🏇 Stage Star (Paul Nicholls) Though he is expected to appear in the Supreme Novices Hurdle entries (‘in case the ground is testing’), his intended target is the Ballymore Novices Hurdle.

🏇 Vienna Court (Nigel Twiston-Davies) See yesterday’s Daqman story

SEE HOW THEY RAN (for next race only) Adrimel, Garry Clermont, L‘Homme Presse, Makkari, Pic d’Orhy, Quoi De Neuf, Roped In.

RESULTS SO FAR: WWWWWW200W Profit 74.50 points (odds-on shots not staked).

DIPLOMACY ON THE UPGRADE

⭕ 1.45 Hereford Art of Diplomacy won first time after moving from Michael and David Easterby to Dr Richard Newland, and the handicapper put him up an extra 8lb.

He is being aimed at the Challenger Series and the Go North series, but needs a few more pounds on his back to be placed to win one of them.

The Ludlow success was on good ground but his Flat record includes back-to-back handicaps on the soft, one of them in class 2. He gave two stone at Ludlow to the second horse, who had just scored easily at Newcastle.

The obvious danger is Scarpia, who won a Fontwell maiden and ran up to Earth Lord at Ascot but he was in receipt of 11lb that day and now has to give 9lb to Art of Diplomacy (BETDAQ 5.6).

⭕ 2.15 Hereford Call Me Lord ran in the 2020 Champion Hurdle and the 2021 Liverpool Hurdle (led two out, fifth to Thyme Hill).

His chase debut was extraordinary in that he was asked to make it in a handicap, carrying a big weight on soft ground, whereas he is 10lb clear at level weights, dropped a grade, in this two-miler.

Second and fourth in Graded hurdles last Spring, Calico was sent out handicapping off 139. This was dropped to 133 on heavy the last day at Lingfield where, despite top weight, he split two winners. BETDAQ 4.9.

Red Rookie launched well over fences (runner-up at Chepstow) but fell when favourite at Ascot in December. All his success has come on heavy ground.

⭕ 3.00 Newcastle Riggsby looks set to continue his steady improvement on this course at this level, after he turned over the favourite the last day, the very horse that had beaten him in his previous race here. BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE 4.6

It’s a field of veterans, barring Three Platoon, who has won a grade higher but that means he carries a 9st 10lb burden here and he’s been beaten every time at Newcastle (form figures here 203, beaten favourite in two of them).

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
