2022 DERBY: DAQMAN’S RATINGS

4.30 Epsom, Saturday, June 4 (Derby Stakes): The top 14 colts due to line up at Epsom, with Daqman’s ratings and prices from BETDAQ Sportsbook

117 DESERT CROWN Taking after his sire, Nathaniel, who made huge strides in the Spring, he brought only a maiden win to the Dante Stakes table but delivered in style, striding clear of 110 Royal Patronage and 106 Bluegrass.

115 STONE AGE The Galileo colt went clear, impressive, in the Leopardstown Derby Trial, followed home by three last-time-out winners.

110 CHANGINGOFTHEGUARD Another son of Galileo, not off the mark until April 1, but proved nobody’s fool, disposing of the odds-on favourite in the Chester Vase on soft (107 El Bodegon is another who needs rain for Epsom).

110 EYDON Feilden Stakes winner from 107 Masekela and kept on – fourth – in the 2,000 Guineas, despite being clearly unsuited by the Rowley Mile course. Royal Patronage and 106 Point Lonsdale behind.

109 UNITED NATIONS Beaten on reappearance by 109 Nahanni in the Epsom Blue Riband Trial before getting the better of Nahanni’s Charlie Appleby stablemate, 107 Walk of Stars, in a prolonged gallop to the line in the Lingfield Derby Trial.

108 PIZ BADILE To be ridden by Frankie Dettori. Game success in the Ballysax (Group 3) at Leopardstown in April from subsequent Listed winner 107 Buckaroo.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE 3.0 Desert Crown, 3.75 Stone Age, 9 Changingoftheguard, 10 Piz Badile, 13 Star Of India, 15 United Nations, 15 Westover, 17 Eydon, Point Lonsdale, Walk The Stars, 21 Nahanni, 23 Buckaroo, 27 Royal Patronage, 50 Bluegrass, Masekela.

BEACHCOMBER FIND AT BRIGHTON

⭕ 1.30 Brighton He gets a big tick in the name department for a runner at Brighton but, more importantly than that, Life’s A Beach looks to have an outstanding chance on the book too.

He ran a real eye-catcher first time out this season (after a 273 day break) when fifth at Bath having had a nightmare run.

Indeed it wouldn’t be a huge leap of faith to suggest the Richard Hannon trained runner comes into this as a winner without a penalty as he looked to lose more ground during the race than the official length and a half he was beaten by.

It might well have been a rare pilot error by Pat Dobbs as he was left with plenty to do – John Fahy takes over in the saddle today.

There are any number of dangers on what looks an ultra competitive handicap but on the shortlist would have to be The Charmer who seemed to show much improved form for the application of a hood at Southwell last time out and the headgear is back on.

This one was pitched in at the deep end as a two-year-old and didn’t show much but as a result could be well handicapped in an event such as this.

BELLS ARE CHIMING

⭕ 4.45 Nottingham Canterbury Bell was hovering at even money on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE in mid morning trading and that makes plenty of appeal about the William Haggas trained runner.

The stable are running at a strike-rate of 14-32 over the last 14 days and that haul also includes Baaeed.

There’s every chance that Canterbury Bell can boost the strike-rate further. She got the race in the stewards’ room at Newmarket last time out in a bunch finish where she was carried wide.

A reproduction of that effort should be good enough but surely we can expect further improvement too on just her fourth start?

Guilin is also lightly raced but was beaten 11 lengths at Beverley on his turf debut last month.

A bigger danger might come from She’s The Danger (appropriately enough!) who was a course and distance fourth last time out.

CLICHE TIME

⭕ 7.03 Hexham Well Cliche is up 3lb for his final start of last season (which was only last month) at Sedgefield.

He looks a better model over fences and could easily improve further. Unlike plenty of his rivals he has no problems in the stamina department and will appreciate give in the ground.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
