THE FLY GETS ONE FOR DAQMAN: Hurricane Fly provided solace for Daqman on Monday, the final day of the Leopardstown Christmas Festival as he out-battled the reigning Champion, Jezki in a thrilling finish to the Ryanair Hurdle. The pair are now set to meet again for the seventh time in the Irish Champion Hurdle in January before a likely Round eight in Cheltenham in March.

TAUNTON AND LINGFIELD FOR DAQMAN TODAY: Two meetings have survived the cold spell as Taunton got the early morning go ahead while they also race on the All Weather at Lingfield.

BIG BETDAQ RACE GETS SAVED: Yesterday was due to see the Listed BETDAQ No Premium Charge Mares Steeple Chase at Doncaster but for a heavy fall of snow. Thankfully the big race has been saved and will be run on January 9th at Doncaster as part of a BETDAQ bonanza day at the Yorkshire track.

TARA TO MAKE A POINT IN TAUNTON

1.30 TAUNTON The second race at Taunton looks as competitive as you will find with just one horse in the 9 runner field at odds of higher than 10.0 on BETDAQ.

Friendly Society, Cash Injection and Midnight Request head the weights and the market for the race but the one that I like most in Tara Tavey for Kevin Bishop. Conor Smith takes a valuable seven pounds off the mare and she looks to be the most solid option off just two pounds higher than her last run.

3.00 TAUNTON The Listed Mares Novice Hurdle looks to be a great opportunity for the Paul Nicholls trained Tara Point.

He made her a horse to note in several pre-season interviews and showed exactly why when winning on her first two starts. Although she only managed third last time out at Sandown, that was in a Grade 2 event behind Vyta Du Roc (who finished second in yesterday’s Challow Hurdle) and she was only beaten just over a length.

This is a drop down in class and I certainly don’t think there is anything with the class that can match Tara Point and she should be able to score here with ease.

4.00 TAUNTON The concluding Handicap Hurdle is a nice race to finish with today, although not all that competitive.

At the top of the weights, Kalimantan should be able to come on from his third place finish at Cheltenham last time behind none other than Starluck who was a one-time fancy for the Champion Hurdle. Although he may prefer the ground slightly better, his run the last day was on Good to Soft and I think he should have no problems winning the last.

1.50 LINGFIELD Over on the All Weather, there are a couple of good bets including in the Ladbrokes Mobile Handicap at 1.50.

Rocky’s Pride is an eye catching entrant at the weights and the prices at 10’s on BETDAQ. He is a very consistent sort and has run well a couple of times previously over course and distance. Having won a similar race in Newcastle in September, connections then turned their attention to the All Weather and he’s been placed in three of his four runs on the surface and he looks a really good each way bet in this race.

2.20 LINGFIELD The feature race of the day at Lingfield is the Ladbrokes Handicap over a mile and although there are only six runners, it is quite a decent event.

Beach Bar is the current favourite for the race but I’m going to take him on with Rebellious Guest who never fired last time out on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton behind Brocklebank. He now gets a nice turn around at the weights and back onto his preferred surface, Rebellious Guest can cause an upset in this one.
