HORSES TO FOLLOW THIS WEEK: Fresh from their one-two in the Eclipse Stakes, Daqman’s Fortune Cookies are five handed in this week’s big races at Newmarket (July Meeting) and The Curragh.

BACK TO BACK NAPS: After Sunday’s BANKER romped home by 34 lengths, DAQMAN followed up with another winning nap on Monday – BIG TOUR (nap) WON 5/4 who was a well backed second favourite and stayed on strongly to beat the favourite Hyperloop by three and three quarter lengths at Windsor. DAQMAN said the market had got it wrong.

LISTED ACTION: A very average day of sport is brightened by the Listed Pipalong Stakes at Pontefract where DAQMAN looks beyond the market leaders. All three of his Tuesday bets come from Pontefract.

FORTUNE COOKIES’ HIGH FIVE?

Five for a fortune! After a one-two for the Fortune Cookies with Ulysses (WON 8-1) and Barney Roy in the Eclipse last Saturday, they have five lined up for the big July Meeting at Newmarket this week plus our top rated three-year-old for the season so far, Enable, at the weekend.

Enable is due to attempt an Oaks double, after winning at Epsom as a 25-1 ante-post bet for this column. Now she has Saturday’s Irish version at The Curragh there for the taking.

The five Fortune Cookies scheduled to appear this week are, in date order, Thursday to Saturday:

Idaho Princess of Wales’s Stakes, Newmarket, Thursday

Winter Falmouth Stakes, Newmarket, Friday

Enable Irish Oaks, The Curragh, Saturday

Caravaggio July Cup favourite, Newmarket, Saturday

Limato July Cup, Saturday, as 6.0 offer on BETDAQ.

PERMISSION TO BET PIP?

3.10 Pontefract (Pipalong Stakes) A rare bright spot on a frankly mundane day of racing on Tuesday. The Pipalong Stakes is capable of throwing up a surprise winner (12/1 winner in 2014 and 11/1 winner in 2015) and this year’s market is dominated by two fillies clear on ratings but not arriving in the best current form.

At the top of the official ratings is Dawn Of Hope who bids for her first black type success. She was last seen finishing seventh in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot and prior to that only beat two home at Sandown in a Group 2.

I think she looks plenty short in the market given both of her previous wins have come on good to soft ground.

Pirouette finished two and a quarter lengths behind Dawn Of Hope at Royal Ascot with another of today’s rivals, Summer Icon, last of all. There seems no obvious reason why those form lines shouldn’t be confirmed today.

We have the three BETDAQ places up for grabs despite the field now being reduced to seven and it looks a race to try and find one at a price with a stakes saver in the place market.

James Fanshawe’s Permission looks interesting win and place. She has a bit to find on the ratings but is less exposed than most and there’s a good chance she can improve.

She was second over this trip in an Ascot handicap before finishing fourth in a Listed contest at Nottingham where the ten furlong trip looked too far.

4.10 Pontefract There must be every chance that Walton Street can make a winning debut for Godolphin here.

He is well bred and the market signs look positive in early exchanges. Charlie Appleby remains in good form and this looks quite modest especially now that Love Conquers is a non runner. Appleby should be guaranteed at least one winner today as he has a 1/5 chance running later at Wolverhampton in the 4.55pm.

Sir Michael Stoute’s Precision showed slightly better form at Sandown than on his debut at Windsor but looks a slow burner of a project.

4.40 Pontefract Ching Ching Lord is up another 8lb which might anchor his hat-trick hopes and Edgar Allan Poe gets a compulsory 6lb penalty for a win in soft ground at Hamilton a week ago. Both look opposable.

It may pay to look elsewhere. Richard Fahey’s Golconda Prince has been knocking on the door and can strike against some harshly handicapped rivals. He seems versatile ground wise.

DAQMAN’S BETS (to win 20)

BET 8.1pts win WALTON STREET (4.10 Pontefract)
