5-1 HIT AS DAQMAN CLAIMS 21.75 PROFIT: After a hat-trick of naps at 1-1, 11-4 and 13-8 over the weekend, Daqman yesterday named two winners in three races for a Monday profit of 21.75:

WON 5-1 CLAIM THE CROWN
WON 4-6 GLAM DE VEGA

COUNTDOWN TO THE JULY MEETING: Daqman today opens his countdown to the July Meeting at Newmarket (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), Tomorrow he will add his Fortune Cookies update.

JULY MEETING’S ASCOT TRENDS

⭕ July Stakes, Thursday: ‘Ascot losers’ scored a notable 5-1 victory for Daqman yesterday with Claim The Crown at Ripon.

Thursday’s July Stakes has been won five years out of six by a horse that took part – won or lost – at the big Ascot meeting.

Thursday’s renewal features Persian Force, Waiting All Night, Harry Time, Show Respect and King’s Crown, Coventry Stakes runner-up, fifth, eighth, 11th and 12th; Windsor Castle winner and fourth Little Big Bear and Chateau, and Norfolk Stakes fourth Brave Nation

⭕ Falmouth Stakes, Friday: Clemmie (2018), I Can Fly (2019) and Mother Earth (2021) have all failed since Aidan O’Brien won this back-to-back (2016-17) but he will try to dislodge the odds-on favourite Inspiral with Tenebrism, who could manage only fourth to the flying filly in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

⭕ Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes, Friday: Though due to ride in the Belmont Derby (Nations Pride) and Oaks (With The Moonlight) at the weekend, Frankie Dettori has accepted the ride on Lezoo for Ralph Beckett in this.

Lezoo is Dettori’s only winning ride since taking a ‘sabbatical’ from the Gosden yard after moderate results at Royal Ascot.

⭕ Bunbury Cup, Saturday: There are seven three-year-olds left in the Bunbury Cup on Saturday, including Team Gosden’s Samburu and Ralph Beckett’s Deodar at the front end of the market, but the stats record no second-season winner this century, none in fact since 1998 and just three since 1975.

⭕ July Cup, Saturday: Three-year-olds do well in this (four of the last seven) and the gamble of the week so far has been Australian raider, Artorius, the Caulfield Guineas third who has already been placed in the Platinum Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

Artorius was third to Naval Crown and Creative Force, beaten less than a length overall, after failing to get a clear run. All three are due to meet again in this July Cup.

Michael Owen has supplemented Commonwealth Cup second, Flaming Rib, at a cost of £36,000, though his Royal Ascot conqueror, Perfect Power, is hot favourite though not sure to run.

SUSPICIOUS MINDS

⭕ 3.00 Wolverhampton Just occasionally a race at Wolverhampton throws up a really good horse…. and in exhibit ‘8 December 2020’ several VERY good horses! The first five home that day in a maiden were:

1 Loving Dream (since Group 1 winner)
2 Sea La Rosa (since Group 3 winner)
3 Romantic Song (since Listed winner Germany)
4 Free Wind (Saturday’s Lancashire Oaks winner)
5 Save A Forest (since Listed winner)

Imagine bumping into that lot on your first start !!

I’m by no means suggesting this afternoon’s novice event will produce anything of that calibre but it does throw up an interesting match between the Roger Varian and Ralph Beckett pair of Zenga and Suspicious.

The Betdaq Betting Exchange market was narrowly favouring Zenga in 10am trading but I’d have it the other way round.

Zenga already carries a wealth warning having been a beaten favourite in both her starts at Newbury and Goodwood and whilst this might represent a class drop, I haven’t seen any excuses for her defeats and she was also tardy away from the stalls last time.

Suspicious is back after a 325 day break but I like the fact that the Beckett also has her entered up at Newbury this week suggesting the stable are now keen to run her.

The form of her Doncaster debut win looks solid enough with the second and third both subsequent winners.

Malakahna is another one back after a break – at least on the flat. She was last seen completing a hat-trick over hurdles when winning at Cheltenham in April but as admirable as that sequence is (also wins at Kempton and Newbury) the thinking must surely be that she will find this 1m 1f trip on the sharp side.

THUNDER STRIKES TWICE

⭕ 3.15 Pontefract (Pipalong Stakes, Listed) David O’Meara had a winner yesterday with Charging Thunder at Ayr which ended a lean spell for the yard and they will be hopeful of another ‘thunder’ win today with Thunder Beauty.

Certainly if this Listed race was settled on the best recent form they’d be giving out the prizes already as her Royal Ascot second to Saffron Beach in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes stands out like a beacon.

She travelled like a dream that day, completing defying her 40/1 price tag but it wasn’t a fluke run as she had previously finished a very creditable fourth in the Group 2 Lanwades Stakes at the Curragh.

She should find this company much easier and deserves to land a decent pot having not won since her debut back in 2020.

MIRAGE ON FULL TANK

⭕ 7.20 FFos Las The card was originally due to be held yesterday but moved due to fuel protests on the M4 motorway.

Seven races, free admission and the good ground has ensured reasonable field sizes tonight.

Red Mirage should land a hat-trick in this class 2 handicap and see off the principal challenge of fellow hat-trick seeker Space Tracker who looks on a hefty enough starting handicap mark of 93.
