ANOTHER SUPERNAP IN FIVE-WAY BID TO MAKE HEADLINES: Goodwood and Galway hit two of their top spots today with the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and the Galway Plate tonight. Here are Daqman’s headlines:

FOUR-YEAR-OLDS ARE DOMINATING

1.50 Goodwood Handicap Cool Sky’s victory in this marathon last year (Arthur McBride and Denmead behind) was the start of three wins out of six, Flat and hurdles.

Now 5lb higher in a better race on different ground today, but has improved his rating under both disciplines, with trainer Ian Williams having a great year. He’s won this race three times in the decade.

Coeur De Lion’s best form is also with some cut. He was unlucky over 2m on firm at Newbury (not clear run) on the last day but was earlier found out for pace over today’s trip (sixth in the Ascot Stakes).

Dominating, a 25.0 offer on BETDAQ this morning, won five times last year. He’s now down to within 3lb of his last winning handicap rating, and is Mark Johnston’s only runner in a race he won back to back (2012-13) with four-year-olds.

The local horse Imphal (10.0 BETDAQ) is another four-year-old primed for this. Ran well (hampered) when third here at Goodwood over 2m on the last day, and has continually shaped as if needing a marathon trip.

Two more four-year-olds, Piedita and Northwest Frontier (10.0 BETDAQ), could be involved if they get the trip. Trainer Fahey insists that Frontier will stay ‘all day and all night.’

Lil Rockerfeller improved 35lb to Grade-2 status over jumps, and looks well in here off a Flat mark of 82, though a staying hurdler could probably do with some cut to slow the others down.

INFRASTRUCTURE IS SET TO STRIKE

2.25 Goodwood Six of the last seven winners were drawn low (stalls 2 to 5) and for most of the decade were just behind the front two in the betting (winners 4-1, 5-1 twice, 7-1 twice, 8-1, 9-1), with only a couple of exceptions.

Corgi (stall 5), Making Miracles (8) and Proschema (12, both wins on soft) have been entered up as if Group horses in a handicap here.

Corgi finished well in front of Making Miracles at Royal Ascot and had earlier beaten Infrastructure at Sandown, but that one – in stall two today – just failed to catch him, and now has another two furlongs in which to do so.

The omens are good because, next time out, Infrastructure beat Drill at today’s trip. I took 5.1 on BETDAQ.

WHY SOLDIER LOOKS A GOOD CALL

3.00 Goodwood (Molecomb Stakes) Bungle Inthejungle (Mick Channon) won this in 2012. Now here’s his son Rumble Inthejungle for Richard Spencer.

Only Soldier’s Call was shorter in the betting this morning, understandably so after beating Well Done, Fox, Life Of Riley and Queen Of Bermuda at Royal Ascot.

Well Done Fox, five lengths behind Soldier’s Call at Ascot, was just a neck down on Rumble Inthejungle at Salisbury in the Spring. I took 3.35.

DON’T BET WITHOUT THIS BANKER

3.35 Goodwood (Sussex Stakes) High quality by virtue of a seeming match between two big improvers, Expert Eye and Without Parole.

Poor quality by the ratings standards of Frankel (twice a winner) and Kingman (126, 130, 140), with no runner today racing off a 120 mark.

Three-year-olds usually win it and there are a trio rated 119 (Withoiut Parole and Expert Eye) and 118 (Gustav Klimt).

David O’Meara, who has had 17 winners and 29 others placed in 14 days, saddles Lord Glitters, mindfiul that the rains came last year and handed this £600,000 prize to a 20-1 shot.

But Lord Glitters was beaten only a neck by Beat The Bank on firm ground in the Summer Mile at Ascot less than three weeks ago, and had that one behind him on even faster ground when runner-up in the Queen Anne Stakes.

When they play acey-deucey like that, it’s better to keep away from them, and Lord Glitters now has bridesmaid’s figures of 212222.

Gistav Klimt is also a nearly horse at the highest level, placed in the Irish Guineas and the Prix Jean Prat, and second to Without Parole at Ascot.

Like Beat The Bank, Expert Eye has previous success at Goodwood as an advantage but he’s won only at 7f and not yet at Group-1 level, which seems to hand it to Without Parole (just under 3.00).

NEVER! NO WAY IS HE A 20.0 OFFER

7.20 Galway (Plate) Not my favourite race, betting wise. I’ll follow the stats, which say young horses win it (four of the last five winners were seven year olds), and that successfully carrying 11st and up is just not done.

Saturnas is a guess at the trip and Willie Mullins has had nine placed in the race, winning only once.

So I’ll try another six-year-old, Joseph O’Brien’s Slowmotion (9.0 taken), who doesn’t have to improve much from his third place in this a year ago. Blinkers should close the gap.

At the BETDAQ offers, Neverushacon for in-form Jessica Harrington looks to have so much potential that 20.0 is wrong.
