COUNTDOWN TO SUPER SATURDAY: Look out for the countdown starting Sunday on the Doncaster St Leger and Irish Champion Stakes, both to be run next Saturday. Daqman whets your appetite for next weekend today, with a check on three big races.

EVENING NAP: His three bets today start with a selection in the 1.50 at Southwell. The nap runs at Hamilton.

⭕ 2.20 Doncaster, September 10 (Champagne Stakes) Richard Hannon was looking for a hat-trick in this last year but Lusail didn’t act on the false ground in a tactical race.

Hannon had won it the two previous years, with his Gimcrack star, Threat (2019), and dual-winner Chindit (2020).

Classic (Dubawi out of a George Washington mare) might have been a dual winner going into this race on St Leger day had he been asked for his effort sooner at Goodwood, before a smooth success at Newmarket last month.

⭕ 3.33 Doncaster, September 10 (St Leger) Though Charlie Appleby’s New London is odds on (1.61 on BETDAQ), there’s been money for Zechariah, who still looks big at 11.0,.

Zechariah was headed in the final stride by Eldar Eldarov in the Queens Vase and is officially a
pound behind that one (109-108) yet Eldar Eldarov is 7.0.

⭕ 3.45 Leopardstown, September 10 (Irish Champion Stakes) As connections of Baaeed lean toward the Arc, French Derby and Sandown Eclipse winner Vadeni is shortening up all the time for the Irish Champion Stakes.

The race provides him with the chance of a third consecutive 1m 2f title at Group-1 level, with the English challengers – Mishriff, Native Trail and Bay Bridge – already beaten by him (second, third and fifth) in the Eclipse.

⭕ 1.50 Southwell Red Treasure can make it third time lucky by landing this novice event over six furlongs on the Tapeta surface.

The Ed Dunlop trained runner has finished runner-up in both her starts to date at Windsor and Brighton last time out where she failed by a neck to justify favouritism when beaten by Georgiava with the pair pulling nicely clear.

As I’ve said so many times before, Brighton is a quirky track that can often throw up quirky results so the value of the form has to be taken with a caution but overall Red Treasure brings the best level of form to the table here and can account for Belsito who looks the danger on the Betdaq Betting Exchange.

Belsito finished an eye-catching fifth on debut at Ayr when not getting the rub of the green and can only improve but the current form of the Kevin Ryan yard (2 from 42) is a little concerning.

⭕ 6.55 Hamilton Sea Gifted should pay for her long trip north.

The William Haggas trained filly should be suited by the softer ground, being a daughter of Sea The Stars no less, and can build on her improved second start at Kempton last time out when she finished second to Royal Scandal.

She plugged on in the closing stages and whilst racing over the same trip tonight she should relish this stiffer test on the slower ground and the uphill finish.

It looks a match on paper between the Newmarket raiders.

The Crisford’s run Makfoul whose form in three starts has proved very similar. He might not be progressing but when the trainer has a strike-rate of 10 winners from their last 22 runners he can only be dismissed lightly.

⭕ 7.55 Hamilton The answer to this might be Jim Goldie but which one might be the tougher challenge.

Clan Jock looks the chosen one. He makes a quick reappearance having finished a neck second here on Friday on his hat-trick bid and can get back on the winning trail here over a shorter trip.

Goldie’s other runner Ayr Poet also ran here on Friday (different race) but was beaten seven and a half lengths into third and ran flat for my money.
