EMMET RYAN ON EUROPEAN DOMESTIC ACTION: After a light slate midweek, the real business picks up on the continent this weekend. It’s time to find the best value from Europe’s elite. Let’s pick some winners.

The hottest team in Europe right now is familiar to bettors who grew up in the 1990s. Lazio are on an absolute tear in Serie A. The club that was once home to one Paul Gascoigne is third in Italy’s top flight and pushing hard for second, which would guarantee a spot in next season’s Champions League group stages. Lazio’s run of 7 straight wins has them just a point behind city rivals Roma but they need to keep on winning.

On Sunday Lazio host Empoli, a team comfortably in mid-table with nothing to play for and nothing to fear. Betdaq punters know that this is the type of opponent Tipster HQ fears because with few games to care about, any match that can influence the rest of the league could rouse Empoli’s players from their slumber. Lazio however look like a team on a mission and I don’t see them giving up ground this weekend. The outright is a little low on value so I’m looking at the Half-time/Full-time to deliver. Back Lazio/Lazio at 2.28.

Jumping to Spain and the race for the final Champions League spot in La Liga is heating up big time. Sevilla host Barcelona this weekend in a game that is nothing short of must-win. That’s a huge ask against a Barca team that looks well capable of pulling off a treble. We have seen Lionel Messi recover from a relative slump in form, a Messi slump is a golden age for most players, and Barcelona look unbeatable at present. Sevilla need to bring the fight early in this one and that makes me think we’re going to see gaps at the back. With that in mind, I like Barca to make an early breakthrough. Bet on Barcelona/Barcelona at 2.38 on the Half-time/Full-time.

Finally we turn to the Bundesliga where Borussia Dortmund’s reputation for past heroics seems to have inflated the confidence of punters beyond belief. On Saturday the tenth place team in Germany travels to play third place Borussia Monchengladbach. What’s bizarre about this is that Dortmund are clear favourites away from home against a team that has shown far more consistency all season long. With an automatic place in next season’s Champions League there for the taking, I don’t see Gladbach making any mistakes here. Bet on Borussia Monchengladbach at 3.05 to win…at home against a team 7 places behind them. Sometimes the value bets are just blindingly obvious.
