EMMET RYAN GOES BETWEEN SPAIN & ENGLAND IN SEARCH OF THE BEST VALUE: It’s a case of taking care of business for Spurs in the Capital One Cup while Spain’s big clubs will look to progress in the Copa del Rey.

The big match on Wednesday night sees Sheffield United host Spurs with the underdogs looking to overcome a 1-0 deficit after the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final. For the Blades, it was a sterling display that saw them escape White Hart Lane only a goal down but on Wednesday night they will need to attack and that should provide Tottenham with chances to catch them on the counter. The market has been smart with this one and not allowed the surge of FA Cup upsets at the weekend to sway them. Spurs head to Bramall Road as clear favourites and rightly so.

While a one-goal lead may not seem like much of a cushion, it’s enough to put United under pressure to attack early. That squarely brings the Half-time/Full-time into play. With Spurs hungry for a trophy, I like them to find a goal on the counter early and kill off this tie. Take Tottenham/Tottenham at 2.64 on the Half-time/Full-time.

Atletico Madrid didn’t deliver last week but once again the market has undervalued Diego Simeone’s squad. This column isn’t about picking winners, it’s about finding the winner that delivers the most value and that requires taking a calculated risk sometimes. The Copa del Rey is of huge importance to Atletico this season. For Barcelona, it’s a trophy but without the opportunity to claim the scalp of Real along the way it’s not going to define their season. Simeone has given his players the taste for bubbly and he doesn’t want them to forget it anytime soon. Play it smart and trust the La Liga champions to deliver in the Calderon. Bet on Atletico Madrid at 3.45.

Villarreal head to Getafe in good shape to progress to the semi-finals and I like them to take this second leg seriously. Holding a 1-0 lead, I don’t expect the visitors to be overtly attacking early but they have the threats on the field to test lowly Getafe. The hosts could do with the distraction offered by the cup but an early goal from Villarreal would surely kill their interest, particularly with a relegation battle to fight. I don’t expect a classic but an away win looks by far the most likely outcome. Bet on Villarreal at 1.95 to win.
