EURO 2016 SUNDAY: Three matches on Saturday ….. 2pm France v Republic Of Ireland, 5pm Germany v Slovakia and 8pm Hungary v Belgium. We preview all three games.

France v Republic of Ireland

2pm Ireland will certainly fancy their chances of causing an upset here judging by how teams kept France at bay in the group games, obviously both Romania and Albania wilted to the late pressure from France but take away those 89th and 90th minute goals in those games and we’d be discussing a very different French team! The problem is however that when Ireland tried the containing tactics against Belgium they were easily brushed aside and it was their worst performance. So how do Ireland play here?

What would probably suit Ireland best is to attack, they have looked much better when attacking in the tournament than when they have sat back, when ahead against Sweden and at 0-0 against Belgium – it was quite obvious they were going to concede a goal at some stage, they just invited pressure – it just didn’t look to suit them. The problem however is, if they do attack, that will surely suit France too, who have the players to easily find gaps on the break. We are not convinced France are as good as the markets think they are though, and at 1.49 we’re happy to stay away from that – we feel it’s worth taking a chance on Ireland draw-no-bet at 8.4 which feels on the large side.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Ireland draw-no-bet at 8.4.

Germany v Slovakia

5pm Germany have somewhat struggled in front of goal so far at Euro 2016, however they have been dominant, no more so than in their last game when they peppered the Northern Irish goal, but only one shot found the back of the net. Slovakia did well to contain England for 90 minutes in their final group game and they can expect more or less than same type of game here as Germany attempt to dominate possession like they have done thus far, they currently have the best possession stats of any team in the tournament.

Germany also have yet to concede a goal in the tournament too, so there are a number of ways to play this one we feel. You can back Germany clean sheet at around 1.66 or Germany -1 on the Asian Handicap at around 1.8, both appeal slightly more than their 1.46 price in the 90 minute market – the Asian Handicap bet seems the best value to us though.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Germany -1 Asian Handicap to beat Sloavkia at 1.8.

Hungary v Belgium

8pm Belgium started off Euro 2016 quite slow with a sluggish performance against Italy but they have improved against Ireland and Sweden and they should be able to beat Hungary here, but we feel that this game could have goals in it and over 2.5 goals at around the 2.74 mark appeals slightly more than a Belgium win at it’s current 1.67.

Hungary failed to keep the lead three times against Portugal in their group game and there has been two or more goals in each of their three games so far so there should be plenty of chances at goal. We don’t see them sitting back too much here and that should suit Belgium who actually have the third highest success percentage with their passes in the final third this tournament – we expect a Belgium win here but over 2.5 goals seems the value call at 2.74.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Over 2.5 goals at 2.74.

Football-Belgium

Some Hungary v Belgium facts:

  • It’s been over 60 years since Hungary last beat Belgium.
  • Belgium have found the net at least once in their last ten against Hungary.
  • Hungary were joint top scorers in the Group Stages.
