7.45pm After the drama of the Nations League semi-finals, we kick of another round of Euro 2020 Qualifiers on Friday night. Ireland have got off a brilliant start as they sit top of Group D with two wins from two games. However; they could only manage one goal against Georgia and Gibraltar so you’d have to worry about their goal scoring ability going forward in this competition.
Many punters thought that they were lucky to come away from Gibraltar with a win, and they face a very tough test now away to Denmark. We have a lot of recent form to go off here as both sides have been playing each other a lot lately. Ireland managed to come away with a 0-0 draw in the World Cup Playoffs – only to go on and concede five at home. They also met in the Nations League after that and both games finished a 0-0 draw.
Denmark are odds on favourites with the match odds at the time of writing currently trading; Denmark 1.62, Republic Of Ireland 7.6 and the draw is 3.9. The draw will interesting plenty of punters given that three of the last four meetings between the sides have ended 0-0, and it’s very difficult to see Ireland scoring. They created very little against Georgia and Gibraltar – they just don’t seem to have the attacking talent to create a host of chances. Set plays are always their best option.
Denmark should win this game, however at 1.62 we feel that they are too short. Ireland have come away with a result on their last two trips here, and it’s hard to see McCarthy setting up his side for an open game. It’s highly likely Ireland will put ten men behind the ball, and hopefully the lone striker can hold the ball up. We can’t see many goals here and with under 2.5 goals trading 1.58 we’re very happy to back that – this could be a very boring affair.
