FA CUP FINAL: We preview Saturday’s FA Cup Final between CHELSEA v MAN U with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

CHELSEA V MANCHESTER UNITED

5.15pm We have an excellent FA Cup Final on Saturday evening at Wembley with two huge sides who need a trophy to end their season. Both have been disappointing in different ways; Chelsea have missed out on a Champions League spot for next season, while United just weren’t in the same league as their Manchester rivals and went out of the Champions League in embarrassing fashion. Both need to win here to end the season on a high.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Chelsea 3.0, Manchester United 2.8 and the draw is 3.2. While in the ‘To Lift The Trophy’ market; Chelsea are 2.08 while Manchester United are 1.91. One has to feel that more pressure is on Conte and Chelsea here to win rather than Mourinho and United – Mourinho knows his job is safe going forward while doubts surround whether or not Conte will be in charge of Chelsea next season.

The reality is that Chelsea simply haven’t been good enough this season. At times, they haven’t played like a team and at one stage it looked like Conte was going to get sacked but he has seen out the season. United finished their Premier League campaign very poorly; however they had nothing to play for with second position all they could hope for – they did enough to stay in that position and played out a few boring games towards the end of the season. Perhaps their attention was on this fixture.

It’s highly likely that Mourinho will employ his ‘big game’ tactics here and become overly negative. We could be in for a very dull affair without an early goal, and under 2.5 goals is trading 1.61 at the time of writing. That’s priced up pretty fairly and you couldn’t say that there was value on overs or unders in that market. One thing about Mourinho’s tactics in big games is that it stops United from having too many attacking options and we can see that being a huge factor today.

On balance, we’re happy to lay United at 2.8 – we just feel that they are a couple of ticks too short and although Chelsea have been poor this season, they have shown great quality when ‘at it.’ It’s likely a big game to end the season will bring out the best in them and we feel that they should be favourites looking at how the sides play in big games. We can also see a 0-0 or 1-1 here with Mourinho parking the bus, so the draw could be a good bet for many punters; but for us we’re happy to lay United at the odds.
