GAVIN CROMWELL: With seven runners across Fairyhouse and Naas this weekend it’s set to be a busy one for Brand Ambassador Gavin Cromwell, each of which he previews below and gives an update on Wolf Prince.

Wolf Prince

We had some disappointing news during the week that Wolf Prince was out of Cheltenham. It’s only a small setback and he might even be back before the end of the season. He was second in a Grade 1 at Cheltenham and we thought he had a good chance in the Fred Winter. It’s all part of horse racing and hopefully he’ll be back fit and healthy sooner rather than later.

Fairyhouse Saturday

We begin our weekend with Surging Tenor in the maiden hurdle (1.45pm). He ran in a couple of bumpers last year and has been off the track since. Given that break, we’re not expecting too much here and whatever he does on Saturday he’ll improve on for the rest of the campaign.

We’re looking forward to stepping Bajan Excell in the Grade 3 Juvenile Hurdle (2.17pm). He’s entitled to take his chance after his good win in a Limerick handicap last time and the heavy ground should be right up his street. He has good experience for a four-year-old too and although there are a few unknown quantities in there, we’re excited to see how he gets on.

He’d be our best chance of getting on the scoresheet this weekend.

Walk Me Home makes her first start in handicaps (3.27pm). She’s a half sister to a few solid types, but hasn’t performed at that level that so far. She’s probably a bit up against it here and might find one or two a bit too good.

Saturday finishes with Quantatmental in the beginners chase (4.37pm). He’s had a nice break since running okay at Punchestown on his start over fences but looks up against it in this company. He’ll be much more competitive when we get him into handicaps.

Naas Sunday

Yafordadoe runs in the handicap hurdle (3.40pm) and Conor McNamara takes off 5lbs which will help his chances. He’s quite quirky but has ability and we would be disappointed if he didn’t show up here. On the best of his Flat form, he’d have a solid chance and should go well off 109.

We run Greenpanda in the handicap hurdle (4.40pm), who was fifth in a maiden hurdle back in the summer but hasn’t run as well in her previous two starts. She’ll have to step up markedly on all-known form to feature here.

Our final runner is Saol Iontach in another handicap hurdle (4.40pm). She went off favourite the last day at Down Royal but was found to be clinically abnormal post-race. She’s in much better form now and we’re hopeful she’ll run well. It’s a bit of an ask to see her winning this time around, though she does have the ability to win one of these races in time.
