BIG NEWS TO COME NEXT WEEK! I’ve had quite a busy week this week with a lot of miles done! Unfortunately I wasn’t at Goodwood but I’ve had a good week even still.

There has been some great racing at Goodwood this week. I thought Solow was very impressive in the Sussex Stakes and he certainly looks to be one of the top milers this season. It will be very interesting to see him go against Gleneagles at some point.

SHADEN LOOKS AN EXCITING PROSPECT

From my own rides, I rode a very nice filly for Lady Cecil yesterday in Ffos Las called Shaden. This one is owned by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar who I ride quite a lot for so it’s great to be able to get a winner for them.

Shaden won very well last night. You may remember me saying about this one before? She ran in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and had a terrible trip there when she got bumped into very badly at the start and lost a shoe. It’s really encouraging to see her to come back to win after that bad experience.

She’s quite a fidgety sort so I suggested to try a blindfold on her in the stalls. I rode work on her at home a few days ago and we tried it and they seemed to do the job. We used them again last night when she went into the stalls and they worked great. She got a great break and won with her head in her chest.

I’m looking forward to seeing where she goes from here but there are a couple of options for fillies in sprint races with one in about 2 weeks at Newbury so that might be an option for her. Hopefully she comes out of last night’s race ok but I’m certainly looking forward to getting back on her again.

Another one I rode for the same owners was Ghalib in Wolverhampton. He ran a great race and he was just touched off. Wolverhampton probably didn’t suit him that well as it’s a short straight and he’d probably prefer a little more give in the ground. He’s a really nice horse and one to watch next time out.

I also rode Ivanhoe this week. He’s a bit of a monkey and to be fair he’s not really in top form either. He wasn’t too far last night and I know there is another win in him soon but he needs everything to fall right for him. If there’s a strong gallop early on, he can go very close and I’d be hoping he’ll finish closer next time.

CARLISLE LADIES DAY ON MONDAY

This Monday I go to Carlisle for their Ladies Day which is a very different day at the races as it’s for Lady Riders only. Last year I was the first time I had rides at it and I really enjoyed it. My agent has lined some really nice rides for me this year so I’d be hoping for a good day.

It’s quite different for the Jockey’s because the Lady Amateur riders are riding against Lady Professionals which we don’t get to do very often but there’s a great atmosphere about it so it should be good fun.

Before that, I go to Newmarket today and tomorrow for some good rides.

He’s My Boy runs this evening and I think he should have a good chance again. He’s another that needs things to fall right for him as he’s a bit of a ‘thinker’ but he won well over course and distance last time. The rising ground at the finish really helps him as it brings some of the leaders back to him rather than him having to chase them. Hopefully there will be a strong gallop early on as that will suit him and help things to fall right for him.

I also have some good rides at Chester on Sunday including two for Tom Dascombe. They’re both second string runners with Richard Kingscote on the main ones, but you never know what can happen!

Tuesday and Wednesday there are two more of note that I will be down to ride.

Ashridge Lad runs in Chelmsford on Tuesday and I’ll be expecting a big run from him for Brian Meehan. He ran a great race in Ascot last week in a really good 3 Year Old handicap behind a nice Godolphin so he should be well capable of running well here.

Acquittal runs on Wednesday for James Fanshawe and she’ll have a hood on her again. She wore it for the first time in her last run and it really helped. I think she’s ready to win a race and hopefully that will be on Wednesday.

ANOTHER BIG DAY AT GOODWOOD

The first race today is a very good race and should be very competitive. There are some really nice horses in for the likes of Luca Cumani, Michael Stoute and the Qatar horse, Dubday. I think they’ll all do well to beat The Corsican though. I’m told he’s in great form and he could win the first.

The Golden Mile is a race that I won a few years ago and the draw is of huge importance over a mile here. One that could run well if he gets a good break is The Rectifier. He’s drawn in stall 2 and what makes the draw so important is that you hit the rising ground very quickly, about a furlong after the start, so getting a good position is very important. You can then sit back and give them an early breather going up hill.

The Rectifier ran well behind Birdman last time, who’s an improving horse, and if he can jump out quick and get into a good early position, he could run into a place.

CUMANI CAN TAKE ANOTHER BIG WIN

After winning the King George last weekend, Luca Cumani can add another string his bow with the Nassau Stakes tomorrow in Goodwood with Lady Of Dubai. Stable confidence can be a very big advantage but more so than that is course form.

Lady Of Dubai is a course winner and that should be a big help for her tomorrow in a really good Nassau Stakes.

That’s it for this. Keep an eye on this column next week for some really exciting news that I can’t wait to tell you about!
