TWO WINNERS AND MORE TO LOOK FORWARD TO: I had quite a good week since last Friday. I had several decent rides and it was nice to get two winners on the board also.

It has been a busy week between riding work in different yards and there being a lot of racing and it’s great to have a few rides at Newmarket today and tomorrow at the July meeting.

GOOD WEEK FOR THE GIRLS

As I said, I got two winners this week and they came at a good time because I’m in a battle with Cathy Gannon to see who can ride more winners this season. Sammy Jo Bell is a long way in front so myself and Cathy are having our own competition.

Cathy hasn’t got me back yet for the prank I played on her last week, but I’m sure something big is brewing! The longer I have to wait the worse it’s going to be I think!

On the track though, we are going toe to toe and I was two behind her before Talawat and Faddwa won but then Cathy got one back with a good ride on Babyfact at Bath. Hopefully we can keep this battle up for the remaining months in the season.

Another of the girls that did very well this week was Charlotte Jenner who won on Black Truffle on Tuesday. I’ve ridden him a few times and he’s not easy as he’s very keen early on. As we came to the bend I was already off the bridle and spotted Charlotte travelling really well on my outside and just let a shout to her to hold on a little longer. She waited and gave it a cracking ride to win!

My own winners both won very nicely. It was really pleasing to ride two winners for the same owners who are a very good people to be associated with. They’re never afraid, usually, to step their horses up in grade so I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Talawat and Faddwa in better races next time but they should run well again.

Faddwa was very professional winning. We weren’t drawn very well so I had to get across from the start from a wide stall but when she hit the front, I had to give her a smack and she just didn’t know what to do but when I put my stick down she ran on again really strongly.

I struggled to pull her up then! Hopefully she’ll progress further now.

WATCH OUT FOR FLYING POWER NEXT TIME

Another I rode on Tuesday at Wolverhampton was Flying Power for John Norton. He finished second but it was a very encouraging run and I think he is well enough handicapped now to do well next time. I just hope the Handicapper isn’t too hard on him because it was a good run to get second.

The winner of that race, Soul Searcher is one to keep note of. Charlie Hills trains this one and she was very impressive in that race. She ran away from me quite easily and won like a good thing. She’s lightly raced and open to a lot more improvement.

City Of Angkor Wat is another of mine that ran well this week. He was second to Hercullian Prince but Wolverhampton doesn’t really suit him that well. The distance there is one mile and half a furlong and that extra half furlong just takes everything out of him. Somewhere like Lingfield or Kempton would suit him better and he should run well next time.

LOOKING FORWARD TO WETHERBY ON MONDAY

Today I’m riding in Newmarket for the July meeting. This is a great meeting every year and I was lucky enough to have won the July Cup previously. Although Alex Greeves dead-heated in a Group 1 a few year’s before, when I won the July Cup on Dream Ahead I was the first Lady rider to win a Group 1 outright so it’s a special place for me and it’s great to have a ride in the July Cup tomorrow again.

I ride Lancelot Du Lac and, although he’s a big price, I’ll be riding very positively and hoping for the best. Anything can happen in these sprint races so I’m hoping for a good ride but it’s a really good race to be riding in.

Also tomorrow, I have an interesting ride in the Bunbury Cup with Sirius Prospect. He’s probably handicapped at the higher end of his ability at 103 but the last time he ran of this mark he won. He’s another at a big price but it’s a really open race I think he’s been laid out for it nicely by Dean Ivory.

I can’t wait to ride in Wetherby on Monday. It’s my first time to ride at the track since they’ve changed it from a Jumps track. I’ve ridden a winner at all the other flat tracks in the country so I’m hoping Pyla runs goes close to complete the new set.

This week I rode work at the legendary Warren Place where Lady Jane Cecil trains. I was there to ride a filly called Shaden who I rode in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. I won on her on her debut but she got a really bad passage at Ascot and ended up losing a shoe so I had to go very easy on her then.

She worked really well and looks brilliant. I think she’ll be running in the next 10 days so I’d be hoping for a good run from her when she does run. I’ll keep you updated on Shaden next week.

STORIES FROM OUTSIDE THE WEIGH ROOM

I was in Windsor on Monday, my only rides were in the first and last races so it should have been long evening. The time was shortened a little with some stories from Sam Hitchott’s stag party last weekend.

A lot of the guys from the weigh room went and they had some funny stories to tell but I couldn’t repeat any here!! Jockey’s day out in London, you can imagine the scenes!!
