JONATHAN HOBBS: All eyes will be on Romford’s grand ‘reopening’ tonight – with a cracking 16-race card featuring the Coral Champion Stakes Final and the heats of the Coral TV Trophy. Two great events to celebrate the newly built main grandstand at the London Road track.

As ever, variety is the spice of Romford life with a great spread of distances – from 225m to 925m – and a number of crowd favourites line up gunning for gold, none more so than the ‘Queen of Romford’ Chopchop Hope over two bends.

Yvonne Gaskin’s bitch, 45 times a winner from 91 starts, lines up in a brilliant sprint where Troy Bella and Swift Biscuit lead the opposition – and that’s before the Champion Stakes and TV Trophy will wow greyhound fans!

So eyes down for a great card – catch all the action on RPGTV – and here are some of the best bets:

ROMFORD

7:03: An outstanding sprint is surely won at the traps. Prolific winners aplenty line up, with preference for Troy Bella, arguably the best starter in the field with his ideal draw outside. Geelo Carlos could be overpriced, however. His two-bend lines are decent.

Plays: Troy Bella, Geelo Carlos

7:17: Gislerbertus showed pace last week behind Savana Class in arguably a better contest than this. The Crayford runner, a regular winner, boasts terrific speed and puts pressure on favourite Salacres Punch if coming away on terms.

Play: Gislebertus

8:06: Heat one of the TV Trophy and great to see Irish interest here with Riverside Honey making the trip across. She ran a solid race on Derby Final night in the Dorando and could cut loose outside. A middle mover next door clears the way for stripes.

Play: Riverside Honey

8:21: Heat two of the TV Trophy now and the most competitive of the three heats. Rockmount Mint ran a solid race behind Savana Winner last week and the Hove raider gets the vote. Respect to veteran Goldies Hotspur, but this trip really tests her.

Play: Rockmount Mint
Lay: Goldies Hotspur

8.38: Heat three of the TV Trophy and Savana Winner is tough to oppose. The Henlow bitch won well over C&D last week and can retain the title she won at Crayford last year. Aayamza Breeze is top quality but was well beaten last week. Bubbly Bonita goes well clear?

Plays: Savana Winner, Bubbly Bonita
Lay: Aayamza Breeze

9.26: The Coral Champion Stakes Final and a competitive affair could see the well-drawn Aayamza Express shine. She’s a strong-running sort and, if holding her position against the fence, might always have victory in her sights. She is still improving.

Play: Aayamza Express

9.41: A cracking contest, effectively a consolation final for the Champion Stakes with most of these knocked out in the semi-finals last week. Desperado Dan looked a touch unlucky last week and gets a better make-up here. Ballymac Diego could hold up Sporting Dave?

Play: Desperado Dan
Lay: Sporting Dave
