JONATHAN HOBBS: Two major finals and a strong supporting card sees Hove end the open-race year on a real high tonight – and there are plenty for punters to get stuck into.

The Coral Greyhound Olympic and Ballyregan Bob Memorial Trophy finals are the richest races of the night – and both are really competitive and high-class.

The Olympic sees Liz McNair send out half the field, likewise Patrick Janssens in the ‘Ballyregan Bob’ as one of the all-time greats is honoured at the Sussex track.

Both kennels will have high hopes of success and victory for King Sheeran in the Olympic could see him gatecrash Ice On Fire’s Greyhound of the Year party.

It means there is plenty to play for, so eyes down for a crackerjack meeting . . .

Hove

6.27: A brilliant puppy race to end the year could see Droopys Addition continue to build his reputation. The Trafalgar Cup winner has won four of five races – all at Monmore – and now has a first sight of Hove. It should suit his style, although in-form and improving local Killeacle Gus and strong Seaglass Express will keep Ernie Gaskin’s dog up to his work.

Play: Droopys Addition

6.44: Matt Dartnall could have a decent night with plenty of chances and Comeonyoubees could make all from a perfect midfield slot in the bitches’ race. She might break better now and a rails move from Sober Lily clears the way for the local to strut her stuff. She ran well in the Brighton Belle and could have her supporters – all Brentford fans – cheering from the terraces!

Play: Comeonyoubees

7.33: The battle for the inside in this 515m contest could decide how the race pans out. Brynoffa Ben and Slaheny Star look the principals, with the former getting the vote on the basis of his inside pitch. He ran well in the Olympic and now might get a chance to boss proceedings, although backers will not want to see Derek Knight’s dog ping-start!

Play: Brynoffa Ben

7.49: Sidaz Jet is a talented greyhound and a dark horse for the major comps in 2020 with a clean bill of health. He also represents the strong Dartnall team and has moved well in trials – and the draw inside looks a bonus. Another spin might be needed but Sidaz Jet has plenty of class as he showed when reaching the final of the Sussex Cup in July.

Play: Sidaz Jet

8.06: A competitive Ballyregan Bob Memorial Trophy Final now with Skilful Sandie a worthy favourite after an impressive fastest-of-the-night heat win last week. A clear run makes her the one to beat, but the switch to the red jacket is interesting. A help or hindrance? Might the improving Roxholme Butt lead up and stretch these out? Hayley Keightley’s dog ran well here in the Regency earlier this year and is improving after a break. It’s a tough draw outside but a slick exit – always possible from railers when pitched wide – might see him escape the pack. Respect also due here to that wonderful servant Goldies Hotspur.

Play: Roxholme Butt

8.21: A cracking Coral Greyhound Olympic Final brings the curtain down for open-racing at Hove in 2019 – and it’s a great race to do that. The McNairs have three runners, all brothers, and King Sheeran impressed in the heats and his pace and power could again do the trick tonight. However the week off might also help King Dylan after a busy period of late – and he looks well drawn. All that said, Volcanic Reef’s early dash could seal the deal. Heather Dimmock’s dog loves Hove and, providing he breaks, might always be dictating terms. Shoot The Bolt, King Lennon and Desperado Dan add to a superb line-up.

Play: Volcanic Reef

Good luck everyone.
