JONATHAN HOBBS: ROMFORD is back where it belongs as centre-stage on Fridays for punters looking for some open-race fun.

As ever, the action is on RPGTV and SIS with two finals on the card as part of an all-open race programme and some familiar names going for gold – including another rematch between Sparta Master and Antigua Rum in the classiest race of the night for the 575m final.

Eyes down then for the pick of the races ahead of a terrific weekend of action with outstanding cards at Hove on Saturday for trial stakes of the Coral Sussex Cup and Coral Regency and Central Park on Sunday for the semi-finals of the Colossus Bets Silver Salver.

But first it’s the London Road track . . .

Romford

6.09: A sprint kicks off proceedings and Wall Garden catches the eye. The David Mullins-trained runner is a winner over both two and four bends, with the switch to the far-side traps perhaps sparking his interest early. In full flow he’s tough to beat.

Play: Wall Garden

6.28: A bitches contest now and regular winners Swabys Luciejane, Seaglass Shadow and Bang On Annie are in here, not to mention improving Faydas Jet. That said Paul Young’s Pink Osteria has been flying since her return and might get first run again – and hold them at bay.

Play: Pink Osteria

6.43: The first heat of a standard comp now and Have A Brandy catches the eye. The black jacket is one of a strong Mark Wallis team tonight, all of whom will improve for last week’s efforts. Might Have A Brandy trap better from the midfield? He’s classy in the clear.

Play: Have A Brandy

6.58: Goldies Hoddle ran with credit at Central Park last week in the Colossus Bets Silver Salver heats – and was probably unlucky not to win. He has winning form here and goes well from the red jacket, so a level start could pave the way for a rails lead at the turn for Patrick Janssens’ runner.

Play: Goldies Hoddle

7.18: Teaboy Russet has won 6 of his 11 starts and could take some holding again in his heat. He caught the eye in defeat last week without ever really able to boss proceedings – but might he here? A smash break could soon dominate matters.

Play: Teaboy Russet

8.54: The first of the RPGTV-backed finals now and Newinn Jacko is the runner with most scope being once-raced post-lockdown. The Monmore Puppy Derby winner stayed on well in his heat, so if able to keep tabs with them into the turn Ernie Gaskin’s dog could be in pole down the back.

Play: Newinn Jacko

9.12: The 575m final now and Sparta Master is tough to oppose. He’s the best around just now and was flawless in the heats. He should win, although there’s just a thought that a fast-breaking Alien Sea will move off. This could pave the way for the Wallis-trained Antigua Rum’s power to make hay.

Play: Antigua Rum (e-w)
