JONATHAN HOBBS: IT’S yet another huge double-header at Romford tonight with the London Road venue hosting both the Coral Cesarewitch Final and Coral Guys and Dolls Final.

As ever, a strong supporting card spices an already decent card, with heats of smaller competitions playing their part. The finals of these take place next Friday, the same night as the English Derby kicks off at Nottingham. What a night that promises to be!

So to Romford tonight and a few tasty potential wagers below:

Romford Friday

6.09: Grays Cup Winner failed to get home last week over 400m, but the 2018 Puppy Cup winner still showed plenty of speed and can utilise that in this opening sprint. Nathan Hunt’s dog has improving kennelmate Congress Boats next door to hold up.

Play: Grays Cup Winner T4

6.43: Loose Chips could cut loose here. Jim Reynolds’s dog ran in a hot race last week won by Droopys Mac. He’d been led early by Grays Cup Winner then, but might dominate himself if breaking from the midfield – and might the form be franked in the first?

Play: Loose Chips T4

6.58: Yvonne Gaskin’s dogs are in decent form just now and Droopys Ritz looks to have a peach draw in his Standard heat. The draw inside looks perfect and this improving youngster with 4 wins from 9 starts might always be dominating inside.

Play: Droopys Ritz T1

7.18: Another Gaskin runner could take some holding here given Black Hill Boy has strong leadability claims. He was just ahead at the bend in last week’s Puppy Cup final over C&D but lost his position as the field swung round. Might this four-box work for him?

Play: Black Hill Boy T4

7.36: Jet Stream Mags led home Playbook (ran well) last week and the form can be confirmed – providing the red-box comes away inside. Carol Grasso’s bitch has been mopping up these 400m races of late and another front-running effort looks on the cards.

Play: Jet Stream Mags T1

8.38: Droopys Aoife roared home last week in the finale to land some decent wagers – and could follow up here. The market could be made by Perrys Choice, who looks sure to be supported as drawn. However the better early speed could come from the midfield.

Play: Droopys Aoife T3

8.54: The Coral Guys and Dolls Final and Holdem Lauren is a red-hot favourite, not surprisingly so. The red-boxed runner has been superb throughout the competition and likely wins for Carol Weatherall if breaking well and holding her position – she’s posted some cracking clocks here of late. However, any mistakes and the race would open up – and outside Roxholme Irene could surprise. Nathan Hunt’s bitch is a consistently good trapper and might get first run on Ballymac Micko (Jim Reynolds) outside. Trouble inside and who knows? But all things being equal it’s Lauren all the way.

Play: Roxholme Irene (e-w) T3

9.12: A superb Coral Cesarewitch Final, celebrating the return of one of the great events to the GBGB Calendar after eight years absence. Zascandil (Kevin Boon) gave the track record a shake in the heats last week and will be supported, as will Micks Little Gem after her heat romp last week – a 13-length victory which Michelle Brown’s bitch is sure to improve on. However an anticipated battle for an early position between T4 and T6 might just open the way for Three Ems to shine. Paul Young’s recent intake from the Boon kennel has a plot draw inside and will soon be handy – and also steps up on heat form.

Play: Three Ems T1

Good luck all.
