JONATHAN HOBBS TUESDAY: Tonight sees the final GBGB Category One competition of the year with the Arena Racing Company All England Cup Final over 480m at Newcastle – live on Sky Sports Racing.

The All England Cup is the ‘North East Derby’ and will become a £20,000-to-the-winner competition in 2022 as the Arc and Entain tracks upgrade a number of their major competitions. It is the jewel in Newcastle’s crown and boasts a superb roll of honour.

Ted Soppitt (Skywalker Stan) and Angela Harrison (Hardy Rebel, Moanteen Mikey) both have All England Cup victories on their CVs and, as local trainers, prize success in this event above most competitions.

They are joined in the final line-up by another Newcastle handler in Harry Burton (Optic Jimmy), while Edinburgh-based George Cunningham completes the field with his pair of Narcos Dode and Narcos The Great.

Here’s the pick of the races at the Byker venue.

Newcastle

6.41: A cracking sprint sees Mindhowyougo looked to return to winning ways – and he might well. Stuart Tighe’s dog showed great speed during the Classic at Sunderland and moved well in a comeback trial over tonight’s C&D. He takes some holding with a clear.

Play: Mindhowyougo

6.59: The Angela Harrison team rarely come away empty handed on big open-race nights, especially at home track Newcastle. Droopys Biggy steps back into open-race company for this puppy contest after a runaway A1 victory last week. He’s coming together well.

Play: Droopys Biggy

8.21: Six bends now and Duke De Janerio is a solid sort for Gary Ferguson and steps back up in distance with a winning opportunity. The blue-boxed runner sparkled in a recent 480m trial which suggests a handy position inside from the get-go to beat Nice As Ice.

Play: Duke De Janerio

8.36: Coolavanny Aunty is a class act who was fancied to strike in the All England until a troubled run in the heats. However, expect Angela Harrison’s bitch to bounce back here – potentially with a fastest time of the night. She’s that good as the Empress Stakes winner.

Play: Coolavanny Aunty

8.52: The Arena Racing Company All England Cup Final now and a wide-open affair. The Angela Harrison camp have a strong hand with the speedy pair of Hardy Rebel and Moanteen Mikey – and either has the talent to make all. However clearing each other could be key and any hold-ups might let in Skywalker Stan against the fence. Ted Soppitt’s dog has just turned two years of age, is improving, and has a plum pitch inside given a turn of all-round speed. He posted the fastest time in the semis so is certainly quick enough. Fair play to George Cunningham with his pair of finalists, matching the Harrison feat. His Narcos Dode and Narcos The Great continue to impress, with ‘The Great’ looking to add another major title to his Classic success at Sunderland in November. Both have claims, as does Harry Burton’s fastest heat winner Optic Jimmy. It’s a case of whoever does it right on the night likely wins the £8,000 contest, but the percentage call on the draw has to be the red jacket.

Play: Skywalker Stan

9.11: Bellmore Sally will be supported after a fluent win at Nottingham and should go well. However the Harrison-trained Coolavanny Bani has been one of the most consistent bitches for a while now and moved well in a 480m trial. She will soon be handy inside.

Play: Coolavanny Bani

9.26: Little Emir was run out of the places in the semi-finals after trying to cut loose. He did that superbly in the heats and, if anything, should improve again now with two runs under his belt after a break. Should George Cunningham’s dog break well, he could be away.

Play: Little Emir

Good luck all.
