PREVIEW

Borussia Monchengladbach host Wolfsburg this evening with both clubs having made impressive starts to the new Bundesliga season. From two matches the hosts have won one and drawn one, while Wolfsburg have won one and lost one.

A trip to Bayern Munich on the opening weekend was not exactly the fixture that M’gladbach fans will have hoped for over the summer, but to come away with three points was a huge bonus. Manager Lucien Favre will have been disappointed the side were unable to follow it up with a win over Stuttgart at home last weekend, especially after they took a second half lead. Defender Roel Brouwers was sent off in that 1-1 draw, so he’ll be unavailable for tonight’s game.

Wolfsburg began by hammering Cologne 3-0 away from home, but like M’gladbach they were unable to win their first game in front of their own fans. Felix Magath was just seconds away from taking a well-earned point from his former side as Bayern Munich’s Luiz Gustavo grabbed a 90th minute winner.

Even though Wolfsburg have beaten M’gladbach in five of the previous six meetings, I fancy this one to be a tight contest as the hosts look much stronger this term. Die Wolfe were unlucky not to keep a clean sheet against Bayern Munich, so at around 2.62 on the ‘Daq’ I would recommend backing an away victory.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back Wolfsburg at around 2.62:  4 points
Thursday’s Return: +3.84
