Augsburg will meet Bayer Leverkusen for only the second time in their history at the Rosenaustadion, as they go in search for their first home win of the Bundesliga. Life back in the top flight has not been easy for Augsburg and from two home matches they have drawn one and lost one. The host’s tricky start to the season has left them floundering in 16th position in the table.
Manager Jos Luhukay will have at least had some time to think things over during the international break and work out how he’s going to get the first win of the term. Hoffenheim were the most recent side to visit and they comfortably won 2-0 – helped by an early goal. The defence has yet to pick up a clean sheet this season and they face a tough test when Leverkusen arrive this evening.
After a poor start, Bayern Leverkusen have began to show some form and they picked up a well-earned point last time out against Borussia Dortmund. As it stands, the Werkself are sitting in eighth place, but only two points from league leaders Bayern Munich.
Even with home advantage I can see Augsburg struggling and their wait for a first league win looks set to continue. It will unlikely be an easy victory given Leverkusen have scored only twice in the league, but they should have enough to edge this one and claim their third win of the season.
