PREVIEW

With just a point separating the two sides, Southend will be hopeful of grabbing three points tonight to leapfrog Shrewsbury who sit directly above them in second place in the npower League Two. Both clubs have won six out of the ten league games they have played this season, but United sit in third because of an inferior goal difference.

Southend manager, Paul Sturrock, will be pleased  that the match is played at Roots Hall, giving United the advantage of playing in front of their own supporters. His side comes into tonight’s game after a 4-0 away victory against Rotherham, making it three wins on the trot for the Shrimpers.

The hosts will remember last season’s home fixture against Town that resulted in a 2-0 loss, but they can take comfort on the pitch knowing that Shrewsbury’s two league losses this season have come in away games. A home win can currently be backed at around 2.54 on BETDAQ.

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury manager, Graham Turner, will be sweating on his defensive options tonight, as the Town squad has been ravaged by injuries, including their most recent loss of Reuben Hazell. The defender sustained a knee injury in their 2-0 win over Torquay United last week.

Town won their last league away game with a 3-2 result against Port Vale and are available for another victory tonight at around 2.82 on BETDAQ. Considering the Shrimpers excellent run of results, it’s tough to back against a home win and I would recommend that option.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back Southend United at around 2.54: 4 points
Thursday’s Return: +1.26 points
