PREVIEW

A run of six games without a win has seen Mainz slip to fourth from bottom in the Bundesliga and they are unlikely to get an easy ride against Stuttgart this evening. The hosts have won only once at the Coface Arena since August and were hammered 3-1 by Werder Bremen in their most recent game in front of their own fans.

During a difficult run Mainz have been beaten five times in their past six home league games. Thomas Tuchel’s side have surprisingly fared far better on the road than at home and that’s one of the key reasons they are just outside the relegation places. Mainz did take all three points when Stuttgart last visited in the league, so there’s some hope for the hosts.

The visitors lie sixth in the table, but will be frustrated with their past two games that has seen them held by Borussia Dortmund and Nuremberg. Still, Stuttgart’s form remains solid enough and they have only lost one of their past five away league fixtures. During that period, Stuttgart have not found goals easy to come by, with only seven coming on their travels this year in the Bundesliga.

Even though Mainz ran out winners last time these clubs met at the Coface Arena, a lot has changed in that time. Mainly because Mainz are really struggling at home, so the best bet here would be to back the away win at around 2.94 on BETDAQ.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back Stuttgart at around 2.94:  4 points
Thursday’s Return: +5.84 points
