PREVIEW

Liverpool continue their pre-season preparations with a game against Valerenga this evening looking for a much improved performance than their efforts in Istanbul. Milan Baros returned to haunt his former employers last time out as Galatasaray ran out convincing 3-0 winners at the Turk Telekom Arena. That defeat in Turkey was their second three nil defeat on the spin, the other coming at the KC Stadium playing Championship outfit Hull City.

Having shipped six goals in the last two games, Kenny Dalglish will be pleased to be able to call upon Pepe Reina once more and he should play some part in Norway. Right back Glen Johnson is also expected to feature, which means Liverpool are far better equipped defensively than in recent matches.

New signings, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson have all travelled to Norway looking to get some extra game time under their belts. The squad is far stronger than the manager has had to pick from over the past few outings.

Valerenga are currently in tenth spot in the league table at the half-way stage of the season, 14 points adrift of the league leaders. With the Premier League still a while away, the Norwegians should be much fitter than their opponents.

However, with the squad closing on full strength, I would recommend backing Liverpool at around 1.49 to return to winning ways and end a run of two defeats.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back Liverpool at around 1.49: 5 points

Sunday’s Return: -5
