PREVIEW

Sir Alex Ferguson kicked off the new season with yet another trophy after his side rallied back from two down to beat Man City last weekend. The manager will have been particularly pleased with the Community Shield performance, especially with how his new signings got on.

United’s search for a 20th league title begins at the Hawthorns where they meet Roy Hodgson’s West Brom. The Baggies’ 2-2 draw at Old Trafford last season was the only blemish on United’s home league record and it also stopped a run of five consecutive defeats against them.

Hodgson will be telling his side that although United’s home form was close to perfection, they were anything but on the road. United only managed five away wins last season from 19 matches and were prone to blowing leads. However, the 3-2 Wembley win against City showed that United are already in good touch and may already be too strong for the Baggies. The hosts have been beaten in every home Premier League game against the Red Devils.

The signing of Ashley Young has added a new dimension to the defending champions, while Nani’s brace at Wembley won him man of the match and he’ll be a constant threat.

Even with United’s struggles on the road in 2010/11, I’m still happy to suggest backing them to win at around 1.56 on the ‘Daq’.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back United at around 1.56: 6 points
Saturday’s Return: -9
