PREVIEW

Paraguay face tournament favourites, Uruguay, in the Copa America final this evening after edging out Venezuela 5-3 on penalties. La Vinotinto were unable to find a breakthrough and ultimately paid the price for missed chances.

In the other semi-final, Uruguay beat Peru 2-0 with two second half strikes from the tournament’s joint top scorer, Luis Suarez. The brace took his total to three in the competition – tied with Argentina’s Kun Aguero.

Uruguay are currently trading at around 1.49 to lift the trophy, even though the side have managed just two victories en route to the finale. La Celeste managed two more wins than Paraguay, who have drawn all of their tournament fixtures. Paraguay rode their luck against Brazil in the semi and have their keeper to thank for an inspired performance.

Manager Gerardo Martino will have been delighted with the clean sheet against Brazil, but there are still concerns at the back for his side. Los Guaraníes managed to blow a 3-1 lead against Venezuela in the group stages with only a minute of normal time remaining and that’ll offer plenty of encouragement to Suarez and co.

With the form that Suarez is in it’s hard to see Paraguay keeping them out and I can see Uruguay prevailing in this one to bring home their first Copa America title since 1995. The best hope for Paraguay would be keeping things tight and taking the game to penalties where they have had notable success thus far. My advice would be to back Uruguay at 2.05 on the ‘Daq’.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back Uruguay at 2.05: 5 points

Saturday’s Return: -4 points
