PREVIEW

Stoke City’s first assignment in the Europa League proper is a tough one as the side make their way to Ukraine where they meet Dynamo Kiev. Tony Pulis’ side have already played four European games this season and they have won all four – scoring six goals and conceding just the once.
The Potters have also made an excellent start to the domestic campaign and will be buoyed by their 1-0 win over Liverpool last weekend.

The manager has chosen not to take Jonathan Woodgate, to allow his injury prone centreback to have sufficient rest in between matches. Andrei Shevchenko will likely provide the main attacking threat up top and the former Chelsea man will need to be kept a close eye on for the 90 minutes.

Kiev have a strong record at home against Premier League clubs and have won three of their most recent contests here against English opposition.

Yuri Semin’s side were denied a Champions League spot at the hands of FC Rubin Kazan after a 2-0 defeat. That was Kiev’s only loss in their past ten home games in Europe, winning five, drawing four and losing just the once. The host’s form at home in the UEFA Cup and Europa League is even stronger, with no defeats in their past 14 fixtures.

Stoke have showed that they have the talent to compete in Europe and their style of play will cause plenty of problems. In eight games so far this year, Stoke’s goal has been breached only twice and they are capable of getting a point here.
