MATCH POINT: Iga Światek dominates the market and it’s not really any great surprise. She arrives in Paris on a 28 match, five tournament winning run. MATCH POINT makes his recommendation on the Women’s title.

It’s no surprise to see world number 1 Iga Światek installed as the red hot favourite on BETDAQ to win the French Open.

The Polish player cruised to a 6-2 6-0 win in her first round against Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko and to say that Światek is riding on the crest of a wave would be an understatement !

She arrived in Paris on the back of a 28 match, five tournament winning streak which is simply phenomenal.

If that wasn’t a bad enough stat for her opponents – clay could be her best surface of all as she proved when winning the title here in 2020 – the first of surely many Grand Slam victories.

“I think the key is going to be just doing the same stuff I did before,” she told WTA Insider.

“Right now, at these tournaments, I already faced a lot of pressure. So hopefully the different kind of pressure that we have at a Grand Slam isn’t going to overwhelm me.”

With Ash Bartley now retired and the incredible Serena Williams surely on the verge of retirement herself, it’s hard to see where the serious immediate opposition to Światek is going to come from.

Czech eighth seed Karolina Pliskova and 2018 champion Simona Halep have both progressed to the second round but both needed three sets and former world number one Naomi Osaka has already been knocked out in the first round.

Sometimes you really do need to keep things simple and I think this is one of those occasions. I’m taking the 4/7 on the BETDAQ Sportsbook for a decent bet.

Światek plays next on Thursday against Alison Riske in the second round.
