🇫🇷 MATCH POINT: Our tennis tipping column previews the French Open Final on Saturday between Iga Swiatek v Sofia Kenin with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Iga Swiatek and Sofia Kenin battle it out at Roland Garros this afternoon for the women’s title 2020. It’s a battle of the youngsters and a glimpse of the future in the women’s game as the 21-year-old Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin squares up against 19-year-old Iga Swiatek who has yet to drop a set and is favoured on the BETDAQ markets to go all the way.
They have only met once previously which adds further intrigue to the match. That came in the French Open juniors tournament in 2016 when Swiatek won.
Kenin said of that match: “I remember I lost. I don’t remember how I played.
“Of course, we’re both different players now. I have to figure out what she does. She’s had a great two weeks here. She’s had some great results, playing some really good tennis.”
Kenin did the column a favour when she beat Petra Kvitova in their semi-final and for me has improved as the tournament has gone on as she has become readjusted to the clay surface.
She added: “It just takes a few matches to get a nice groove in. I know how to adjust to the surface. So I’m loving the clay.”
Kenin has the experience and confidence from a first Grand Slam win in Australia but faces a young rival who seems to be fearless and is unlikely to be phased. She’s already despatched number one seed Simona Halep en route and I think the lack of a crowd is a real pressure reducing factor in that she can concentrate on her game and not get overwhelmed by the sense of occasion.
I’m taking Swiatek to win in straight sets and become the youngest player to win the title since Monica Seles in 1992 and the first woman to win the title without losing a set since Justine Henin in 2007.
