MATCH POINT: Our tennis tipping column previews Sunday’s clash between Novak Djokovic v Milos Raonic in the Australian Open with recommended BETDAQ bets.

So far so good in the Australian Open with all five selections still going strong. Far too early to get ahead of myself as things can change quickly but the portfolio is shaping up nicely:

Latest BETDAQ SPORTSBOOK prices in brackets compared to prices taken.

MENS
6 points win THIEM TO WIN at around 7.0 (now 4.0)
6 points win MEDVEDEV TO WIN at around 5.0 (now 4.0)

WOMENS
3 points win HALEP TO WIN at around 13.0 (now 10.0)

I’m switching back to the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE for the remainder of the tournament and for very good reasons too. Don’t forget that it’s 0% COMMISSION ON TENNIS including the GRAND SLAMS.

My two ante-post picks Thiem and Medvedev are now disputing favouritism – which is in the main down to the current fragility of Novak Djokovic.

The eight-times champion was involved in a three hour, 25 minute epic battle on Friday evening – eventually overcoming Taylor Fritz in a five set thriller.

There was a medical timeout in that match. Djokovic said: “In the beginning of the third set, I made this quick move on the return going to the forehand, rotating there, and I just felt a tear.

“I felt something happen. I went out for a medical timeout where I was tested and evaluated. I have huge pain. I took the highest dose of anti-inflammatories possible.”

Djokovic now faces Milos Raonic on Sunday (10.15am UK, Ireland time) for a place in the quarter finals.

Djokovic holds a 11-0 career lead over the Canadian but the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE odds of 1.5 illustrate how nervous backers are given his current predicament.

Layers of course also have to factor in any recurrence of Friday’s injury which could lead the number one seed to retire.  No one wants to see that but it is a concern if you are thinking of backing him.

Milos Raonic has started well and will largely be reliant on his serve. He’s notched up 56 aces so far in three matches.

Given my ‘book’ a Djokovic defeat would improve my position significantly so I don’t really need to cover that option.

The set betting is of interest in this match. I think Djokovic’s best chance is if he can get it done in straight sets (around 3.6) – the longer it goes on, the harder it will be so a straight sets win and speculative plays on Raonic 3-1 (Around 7.6) and 3-2 (around 9.4) should keep us interested in a fascinating Sunday morning clash.
