DARTS FINAL: The PDC World Darts Championship Final is on Monday. It promises to be a classic with Michael Van Gerwen taking on Peter Wright.

The New Year won’t even be a day old but we will be crowning the first World champion of 2020 tomorrow night. It is a repeat of the 2014 which Van Gerwen won 7-4 to claim his first World title. The Final was also played on Wednesday January 1st, so could that be an omen for the Dutch man. The Betdaq Exchange certainly believes that is the case. At time of writing, he is the favorite priced at 1.38. Peter Wright is priced at 3.45.

Michael Van Gerwen overcame Nathan Aspinall 6-3 in the Semi-Final and never trailed in the game. This doesn’t tell the full story and the reigning Champion was truly tested. Five of the nine sets went the full distance. In total on legs, Van Gerwen only won 21-18. Aspinall had three times more 180s then “Mighty Mike” and had two more 100+ checkouts and at 2-2 it was anybody game. Van Gerwen upped the gears from there to win four of the last five sets. He had a better average (96.34 vs 92.04) and checkout percentage (40.38% vs 35.29%). Overall, Van Gerwen has been sluggish and will need to play close to full potential if he wants to win his 4th World title.

Peter Wright has been anything but sluggish and has lit up this tournament. Despite trailing 2-1 and level at 3-3, he put away to win 6-3 vs Gerwyn Price in a hot tempted encounter. “Snakebite” continued where he left off from his Quarter-Final and came away with some impressive stats. Averaged 98.39, eleven darter in the first set, checkout of 131 in the second set and won twenty-two legs. He was averaging eleven maximums per game and he smashed that claiming sixteen maximums vs Price. A strong case could be made Wright is in the form of his life.

This World Championship will go down in living memory for a lot of right reasons and I’m confident we will be adding a cracking Final to that. Van Gerwen knows what it takes to win a World Final but the form guide points towards Peter Wright. A mini upset could be on the cards.

Best Bet: Peter Wright to win 7-5 (8.4 at time of writing)
