PURPLE PATCH: Cristiano Ronaldo is in a rich vein of form in front of goal and this weekend faces a team he has fond memories of from his first spell at Manchester United.

Man Utd talisman to keep up hot form?

Cristiano Ronaldo could not have hoped for a better return to Old Trafford as he netted twice for Manchester United against Newcastle on Saturday in a 4-1 Premier League win, before following that up with another strike in the 2-1 Champions League loss at Young Boys on Tuesday.

Earlier in the month, two goals against the Republic of Ireland for Portugal in a 2-1 World Cup qualifying win, meant Ronaldo broke Ali Daei’s all-time international scoring record, taking him to a remarkable 111 international goals.

Ronaldo has now scored five times in four appearances this season, having also played for Juventus last month in a 2-2 Serie A draw with Udinese, and if his performances at this year’s European Championship for Portugal are included, he has found the net 11 times in his last nine games.

Many have doubted whether Ronaldo can keep up his incredible goal-scoring stats this season, but given his record against Man United’s next opponent, West Ham, you wouldn’t bet against him getting on the scoresheet once again on Sunday.

Ronaldo has made seven previous appearances and has scored on five occasions against the Hammers, as well as providing one assist for six goal contributions.

That works out at an impressive 0.86 goal contributions per game, and the West Ham defence will have to be on high alert to stop the Portuguese master at the London Stadium this weekend.
