PURPLE PATCH: As world number one Novak Djokovic hunts a fourth US Open title, at BETDAQ we’ve charted the incredible success the Serbian has had since losing to Stan Wawrinka at Flushing Meadows a year ago.

Since retiring with a shoulder problem against his Swiss opponent 12 months ago, the 33-year-old has played some of the best tennis of his career – winning an incredible 40 of the 43 matches he’s played.

During this remarkable run of form, Djokovic has won six titles, including a record eighth Australia Open in Melbourne earlier this year.

What’s perhaps most amazing about Djokovic’s ‘Purple Patch’ is that he’s playing at a time when two of the sport’s greats – Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal – are still very much a force and to be as dominant as he has been over the past year is incredibly impressive.

He began his dominant spell by winning the Tokyo ATP 500 without dropping a set and that was the case again when he took the Masters 1000 in Paris the following month.

He ended his 2019 campaign in the Davis Cup Finals where the Serbian again failed to drop a set, although his country didn’t make it past the quarter-finals, much to their star man’s disappointment.

Since then, Djokovic has been literally unbeatable, winning all 24 of his matches in 2020.

As well as that eighth title in Melbourne, he’s reeled off victories at the ATP Cup, Dubai ATP 500 and most recently the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati where he beat Milos Raonic in the final.

Given his success this year, it’s unsurprising he’s the overwhelming favourite to keep his imperious streak going at this year’s US Open.

How long can he keep the run going? Well based on what he’s done in 2020 so far, it could be a while.
